Constructed atop an ancient guard tower from the era of the Kingdom of Granada, the Cerro Gordo Tower, a 16th-century edifice, was built to safeguard the local laborers and fishermen. To the west, it visually aligns with the Caleta or Cantarriján tower and to the east with the Torre de la Herradura.
