- Tatev Travel Agency - Begin your tour at a central meeting location at 10:00 am. Travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle to the southern regions of Armenia.
Journey along a narrow road flanked by rock walls adorned with numerous caves, and arrive at your first destination: Noravank Monastery. Nestled in a serene valley, this magnificent structure is designed to blend beautifully with its rugged mountain backdrop, showcasing exquisite architecture and intricate decorations, making it a prime example of Armenian 13th-century architecture.
Noravank comprises three churches: St. Karapet, St. Grigory the Illuminator, and the two-story St. Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God), the latter renowned for its remarkable sculptural artistry.
The next destination is the Tatev Monastery, once the wealthiest medieval monastery in Armenia. Besides being a religious and educational hub, this breathtakingly located complex served as a crucial strategic fortress for the medieval Syunik kingdom, being unassailable due to its position on a high basalt plateau above the Vorotan River Gorge.
In times of peril, the monastery’s inhabitants utilized secret tunnels and passageways leading to the canyon below to maintain connections with the outside world.
Following this, experience the ‘Wings of Tatev’, a 3.5-mile (5.7-kilometer) cableway soaring high over the river gorge and lushly forested hills. Constructed in 11 months, the cableway is the world’s longest without stops, supported by three towers between two terminals: one overlooking the village of Halidzor and the other near the monastery, on the road to Tatev village. Two cabins operate simultaneously, traveling in opposite directions, offering breathtaking views.
Pause for a delicious lunch (at your own expense) at a restaurant near the cableway, having pre-selected your preferred meal from a menu of four options.
After visiting Tatev, return to Yerevan, where your tour concludes at the original central meeting point.
