2 hrs very well spent - Right in the town of Amboise. We are not wine aficionados so we learned a lot about French wine and the unique wine making traditions here in the Lorie Valley. Got to taste 6 wines, small robots also provided. For the price it was an exceptional value.

In the Caves - Short but powerful! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. Bring paper and pen for notes!

A very good time! - Very interesting visit with a beautiful cellar, relevant explanations and tasting at the top! Possibility to buy tasted products: wines and / or cold cuts cheese.

A definite highlight of our week in Amboise - We learnt so much about the process of winemaking and wines of the region. Our host made us so welcome and introduced us to all the factors that influence a great quality wine. It was a great interactive tour, which even appealed to our teenage sons. we loved tasting the wines of the region at the end of the tour and paired with meats and cheeses, it made it a very special afternoon.

Fabulously fabulous - I can’t put into words how much we enjoyed our experience at Caves Ambacia. It’s was bad weather day and we were the only people in attendance so were able to do our tasting with the charcuterie and cheese board. The absolutely delightful young man who guided our tasting (who had lived in our hometown of Sydney Australia for a few years) was friendly, knowledgeable and informative. The food was exquisite. To have a day filled with French wine, food and castles was a pinnacle day on our French road trip. Vive la Vouvray!!

One of the most enjoyable times during our trip! - Amboise and Vouvray were both overnight stops for us during the tail-end of our 30-day trip to France. We walked in, likely looking a little confused and were asked if we were the party from the U.S. to join the wine tasting. We said, "no, but we'd like to be!" and just like that we were seated as others started filling in. In the meantime a very nice gentleman began pouring wine while explaining some of the finer details of the libation. The conversation was lively and highly educational...perhaps the most during our entire trip. Turns out, the man was Pascal Mineau, the owner and current wine-maker. We had a very enjoyable hour just absorbing his inexhaustible passion for wine-making. He was not only funny, but unpretentious, and down to earth...encouraging us to wander around in the caves for as long as we wanted...un-escorted. There was no charge for the tasting (like most places in France when you walk in) by we walked away with many yummy bottles including a 1977. Pascal was kind enough to take a photo with us and continue to answer my questions. (WSET graduate) Lots of fun, a great cave to not only cool off in during the summer, but amazing in and of itself! Don't pass up the chance to test your nose at the smelling stations! Awesome!

An unmissable experience in the Loire Valley - A very good explanation of the guide who attended us, of the best we have had in several visits counting Saint Emilion, Tuscany, Portugal, Spain and Argentina. He took all the time necessary to explain the different wine-growing areas of the Loire Valley, super interesting. They have an area where one experiences the different aromas associated with white and red wines. Highly recommended.

If you only have time for one wine tasting / tour in Amboise, this is the one! - I can't begin to quantify how many wine tasting experiences my wife and I have had over the years but I can state here this one is was far and away the best wine tasting / tour that I've ever participated in. It was an education as much as it was a tasting and if you are lucky enough to get Thomas, you will have a wonderful experience. Some of the tour you are semi-exploring on your own and the path leads you to the tasting room where wines are sampled and paired with wonderful cheeses. It turned out to just be the two of us for ours (we visited during a slower season) so I suspect bigger groups would take longer, but this isn't something you would need to plan an abundance of time for. It is very informative and at a pace that's not rushed but also not sluggish. We would do it all over again.
