A Journey Through Time: The Loire Valley Castles

The Loire Valley, often referred to as the “Garden of France,” is a region that has long captivated historians and travelers alike. As a former professor of European history, I have always been drawn to the architectural marvels of the past, and the opportunity to explore these castles in a sidecar was an experience I could not resist.

Our journey began in the charming town of Amboise, home to the royal Château d’Amboise. This 15th-century residence of Charles VIII is not only a testament to the grandeur of the Renaissance but also the final resting place of Leonardo da Vinci. As we rode through the cobbled streets in our vintage sidecar, the castle’s imposing towers loomed above us, a reminder of the power and prestige that once resided within its walls.
