Tirta Gangga - Tirta Gangga translates to water from the Ganges and holds significant reverence for the Hindu Balinese. Specifically, the name refers to the water palace constructed in 1948 by the Raja of Karangasem, Anak Agung Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem. However, it is commonly used to describe the entire area, including the water palace and the surrounding lush rural regions. The Tirta Gangga water palace is a labyrinth of pools and fountains encircled by a verdant garden, stone carvings, and statues. The one-hectare complex was originally built in 1946 by the late King of Karangsem but was almost entirely destroyed by the eruption of nearby Mount Agung in 1963. It has since been meticulously rebuilt and restored, exuding an air of genuine royal splendor.
The centerpiece of the palace is an eleven-tiered fountain, and the gardens are adorned with numerous beautiful carvings and statues. The area around Tirta Gangga is also known for its rice paddy terraces.
