Highlights
  • Grand Husseini Mosque - One of Amman’s oldest mosques, reconstructed by King Abdullah I in 1932 on the site originally built by the second Caliph, Omar Bin Al-Khattab around 640 AD. Tourists may enter if dressed appropriately.

Close to this mosque are two renowned souqs: Souq Bukharia (ideal for souvenirs) and Souq Al-Sukar (offering fruits, vegetables, nuts, and spices).

  • Duke of Mukhyber’s Residence - This historic townhouse, built in 1924, has functioned as Amman’s first post office, the Ministry of Finance, and a hotel. Today, it has been restored with period furnishings by a notable Jordanian businessman, who is also the duke of the village of Mukhaybeh. The collection of old photos of Amman offers a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era. It’s understated but charming.

  • Al Balad – Downtown Amman - Souk el-Khodra, or the vegetable market, is the perfect weekly destination for fresh fruits and vegetables. Much of the produce is locally grown and the prices are significantly more affordable than most supermarkets in Amman. Take a stroll through the souk and enjoy the abundance of fresh seasonal produce while listening to the traders’ melodic calls, enticing you to their stalls. The tour guide will show you around.

  • Habibah Sweets حلويات حبيبة - Enjoy tasting Kunafa, a sweet dish made by the Habibah family, who have been crafting these sweets since the 1940s. They must be doing something right.

  • Basman Street - Discover hidden gems as you visit numerous shops in Amman Downtown, from spice shops to perfume-making, traditional clothing, souvenirs, and more.

  • Al Balad – Downtown Amman - The Balad is the oldest part of the city, consisting of a myriad of markets. Its long history includes many historical sites, such as the Amman Citadel, the Roman Theatre, and the Roman Nymphaeum, which we will pass by during the tour.

A great introduction to downtown Amman - Orwah is a very affable guide and his passion for his city shines through. This was a great introduction to downtown Amman, to the smells and tastes that the city has to offer, to the stories of the people who live here and their hospitality, for which they are rightfully renowned.

Night market bazar - This is a very nice walking tour of the night markets in Amman, i requested the guide pic us up at our hotel and he was very accomidating, i paid for the taxi to the market and on our way back he negotiated the cost of the taxi and we had no problems getting back to the hotel. I would not attempt to do this activity without a local guide, he gave us so much insight into the local flavour and culture. Cant go wrong with this tour.

An excellent introduction to Amman - A good introduction to Amman. We had a very friendly guide who took us round the markets and a couple of other places. We ate lots of tasty morsels given to us from the food stalls and a free drink. Our guide talked about the history of Jordan and life in present day Jordan. Our guide even got my husband's sunglasses repaired ( for free! ) during the tour - an added bonus! Overall I would recommend this tour for your first day in Amman

A highly educational appreciation of way of life in Jordan - My wife and I enjoyed the private walking tour of the old downtown very much. We learned lots about the history as well as the way of life amongst the communities of locals as well as residence from Palestine, Yemen, Syrian, Eqyptian, etc calling Amman home. It changed my perspective from what we often read in the media and Jordan is safe!

Do do if you have 2 Hours to see the city centre - My guide was very nice all perfect considered that I booked with a very short notice. It is anyway a quick tour of Amman market and with a local you discover more than alone. I did not give 5 stars because price is too high.

Market focused - Ibrahim is a charismatic, funny guide. I rated this experience unfavourably because it was very market-focused and severely overpriced, with little emphasis on buildings, and it covered a very limited part of the city. We did not visit any buildings inside during the two-hour visit. If you have a limited interest in markets, you will feel the same, but if food and shopping are your thing, then you will likely enjoy it.

A fast-paced tour primarily of many of the downtown markets - We enjoyed a fast-paced tour of the very interesting downtown markets. Our guide did point out the main archeological sites (Citadel, Theater, Nymphaeum, etc), but we didn't have time to visit them. Perhaps a somewhat longer tour than included these cultural sites would have been better, for us at least. I do recommend this tour if you are staying at an apartment and want to buy some amazing food to cook!
