Jerash / Ajloun / Amman City Tour
Jerash Ruins - After breakfast, we will start out by heading north. We will travel to our first spectacular site, The Greco-Roman City of Jerash, also known as the city of the thousand columns. It is considered one of the largest and most well-preserved sites of Roman architecture in the World outside Italy. You will get a chance to gaze upon this special place that has survived thousands of years.
Ajloun Castle - Proceed to the town of Ajloun with its fortress; one of the best-preserved examples of medieval Arab military architecture in the entire Middle East, which was once governed by Saladin. Something that you will most certainly notice while driving towards Ajloun is how the landscape of Jordan changes from desert in the south to lush green vegetation such as pine tree forests and olive groves in the north. This is just one of the many characteristics of Jordan that makes it a wonderfully unique country.
The Citadel - Return to Amman, Visit Amman Citadel. It is not a stop you would want to miss due to its great significance. Standing as a test of time, and indeed proof that modern Amman has been inhabited for the past 7,000 years.
Upon arriving at the Citadel, you will notice that it’s grandly situated on the peak of an L-shaped mountain, where it beautifully captures the incredible views of the seven mountains that assemble Amman, where you can inhale the surrounding atmosphere.
Roman Theatre - We will now head off to the Roman Amphitheater, which can be viewed from the citadel. A large and steeply raked theatre that could seat about 6,000 people and was built into the hillside and oriented north which kept the sun off the spectators.
King’s Highway (Mount Nebo / Madaba / Wadi Mujib Overview / Karak Castle)
Mount Nebo - After Breakfast, you will have a whole day to explore the King’s highway, which was once, part of the ancient Silk Road. Depart for a journey south of Amman to visit Mt Nebo, where Mosses is believed to be buried. It is the most reserved holy site in Jordan and a place of pilgrimage for Christians.
Madaba - Next, head to the Biblical city of Madaba “The City of Mosaics”. You will be visiting the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, where you will see the masterpiece of Madaba (a Byzantine mosaic map of the Holy Land that goes back to the 6th century, showing Jerusalem and other cities), you will also visit the Archaeological Park, which houses the remains of several Byzantine churches, including the amazing mosaics of the Church of the Virgin.
Wadi al-Mujib - Afterward, You will be going around the deep valley of Wadi Mujib, that offers one of the best views this part of the country has to offer.
Karak Castle - Proceed to visit Karak Castle, an ancient Crusader stronghold, which is the largest late Islamic castle in Jordan. You will visit one of the largest Crusader fortresses that are found in the Levant region. Karak was once a powerful kingdom that was situated on a hilltop, 1000 meters above sea level. Karak is surrounded on three sides by a deep valley, and a town was built on a triangular plateau around the castle; the city’s building layout has been dated back to the 19th century, specifically the Ottoman Empire Period. The narrow streets and crumbling buildings give you a feeling of walking through history.
The view from the top of the fortress is stunning. Far below you see farmland, blocked off by different colors; looking out into the distance, the Dead Sea can be seen; a cool breeze caresses your face as you look out and try to imagine the world of long ago.
Petra Day Visit
Petra - On this day, you get to explore a city carved into stone, walk through a dim, narrow gorge called The Siq, (a holy path filled with old and ancient relics of gods); a sophisticated water system has been placed on both sides of the gorge. Much more will be revealed to you as you walk until you reach The Treasury. You will be mesmerized like Indian Jones was in the movie (The Last Crusade).
A whole city, carved from stone, will open up before you once you leave The Treasury. Houses, theaters, tombs, facades. As the sun casts its rays onto these places and other tourists stroll along and discover the hidden secrets of Petra you will understand what life must have been like for the people living here-tranquil, bustling, and exquisite.
Wadi Rum day visit
Wadi Rum Protected Area - After breakfast, proceed to Wadi Rum; a protected area covering 720 square kilometers of dramatic desert wilderness in the south of Jordan. Huge mountains of sandstone and granite emerge,
Once we reach Wadi Rum, our Bedouin friend will greet you at his home with traditional Bedouin tea (tea made with fresh sage and sugar). After your short rest, you will be set to explore the immense area of Wadi Rum while you are driven in the back of an 4x4 truck. To discover a landscape that was once described by the British officer T. E. Lawrence as, ‘vast, echoing and Godlike.’ This description wonderfully summarizes the Wadi Rum experience. As you are driven around, you will notice the bright blue sky above.
You will notice how the mountains of rock just seem to melt under the sun’s energy; you will also notice the tracks of camels, foxes and wild dogs sprinkled on the wind-swept sand; you will also notice the silence and how much you feel a part of the world that lay before you.
