Jallianwala Bagh - Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar is a poignant memorial that commemorates the tragic massacre of hundreds of unarmed civilians by British troops in 1919. This historical site stands as a solemn reminder of India’s struggle for independence and is marked by preserved bullet marks and a stirring museum, offering a profound glimpse into the country’s tumultuous past.
Hall Bazaar - Amritsar offers a vibrant shopping experience, famed for its bustling markets filled with traditional Punjabi attire, colorful Phulkari embroidery, exquisite handicrafts, and richly woven textiles like the famous Amritsari juttis (embroidered shoes). The city’s lively bazaars, such as Hall Bazaar and Lawrence Road, also feature aromatic spices, local snacks like papad and pickles, making shopping in Amritsar a delightful cultural immersion.
Mandir Mata Lal Devi - Mata Lal Devi Temple, sometimes referred to as Pujya Mata Ji, is one of the most revered destinations in Amritsar.
The temple is devoted to Lal Devi, a saint from the 20th century. Mata Lal Devi was born in Pakistan’s Kasoor district of Lahore. She arrived in Amritsar after the partition, where she gained nirvana in 1994. All of Mata Lal Devi’s life, she solely ate milk and fruit.
The sanctuary is especially well-known and crucial for women who want to start families. It is regarded as a scaled-down version of Jammu’s well-known Vaishno Devi shrine.
The Partition Museum - The Partition Museum in Amritsar is a poignant institution dedicated to preserving the history and personal stories of the Partition of India in 1947. Located near the Golden Temple, it houses photographs, documents, and personal belongings, offering visitors a profound insight into the experiences of those affected by this historic event. Through its exhibits and educational initiatives, the museum serves as a vital resource for understanding the human impact of the Partition and promoting peace and reconciliation.
