Not to be missed on your trip to North India - It is truly worth the while for Indians and foreigners to do this trip. First off , think twice before booking that expensive walking tour and transport package. Here are a few tips: 1. It is worthwhile booking a hotel near the Golden Temple. For budget travellers, I found Malhotra Guest House perfect - clean rooms, all amenities, en suite bathroom, clean sheets and towels and just a short walk to Golden Temple and Jallianwala bagh. If you want to splurge, book Best Western that is really close to the temple. Tip: If you have lost of luggage you may have to haul it some distance and ther e are frequent traffic restrictions. But no worries, plenty of low cost electric rickshaws are available. 2. Expect long queues at the Temple - 2 - 3 hours is normal. 3. The temple is truly grand. Do not miss the evening visit when the temple is lit up. . It is a highly religious place and Sikhs deeply revere this temple. Dress conservatively - full sleeves loose tops and full length bottoms. Keep you heal covered at all times and not a single tendril of hair should show. Follow the rules - no shoes, caps, wash hands and feet in the dip pool before entering. You can take photographs freely outside , but not in the temple itself or on the walkway leading to the temple that goes across the tank. The temple is spotlessly clean. Try the free meal served in the "Langar". 4. Street food strictly at your risk. Restaurants: I found Bade Bhai Brothers Dhaba really good, better than the adjacent and the much publicised Bharwan da Dhaba. These places are just a short walk from the temple along the Heritage Walk. 5. Wagah Border : Reach early to get good seats are there is a huge crowd. It is possible to book a place nearer the border gates through the internet. The parking lot is a good distance away , so be prepared to walk. The entire event is very well organised by the defence services. Snacks and water available inside. 6. Transport to the border - hire/ book a cab - usually the rates are fixed. You can ask your hotel for reliable operators and reasonable prices 7. Hindus should make it a point to visit the Durgiana Temple, nearby. 8. One day will be a rush. Better to do Amritsar over 2 days. Foreigners who want to soak in the "atmosphere and culture" can stay longer. By and large it is a friendly place

Safe & Trustworthy-auto transport service - Travelled to Amritsar, Punjab from the USA with family that only speaks English. We found Army Tour Co. reviews on TripAdvisor and reached out over e-mail. We had some particular sightseeing in mind but Malli’s (our driver) insider tips and points made our visit outstanding. With them, my family felt safe. I would absolutely book with Army Tour Co. again on our next visit.
