Amritsar stands as the largest and most significant city in Punjab, serving as a key hub for commerce, culture, and transportation. It is also the heart of Sikhism, home to the Sikhs’ main place of worship—the Harmandir Sahib, or Golden Temple, established by Guru Ram Das, the fourth Sikh guru. Jallianwala Bagh is preserved in memory of those injured and killed during the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, which took place on the festival of Vaisakhi, 13 April 1919.
