- Dam Square - In addition to fascinating stories and facts about Dam Square’s main landmarks, such as the Royal Palace and the National Memorial, you’ll have the chance to sample chocolate at several stops around the square (a small chocolate tasting), enjoy a famous freshly made Dutch “stroopwafel” (our national cookie!), and try a local drink or spirit. Depending on your preferences, you can choose between a locally brewed beer (definitely not Heineken!) from the renowned Bierkoning (if open, otherwise we’ll visit a brewpub or cozy bar), a Dutch wine (in a hidden wine cellar), or a tasting of locally produced Dutch spirits like genever, brandewijn (brandy), or a liqueur.
- Spui - Your Dutch Food Master will share several amazing Dutch food and drink stories at and around the picturesque Spui square.
We’ll start with a cheese tasting at a high-quality Dutch cheese store, where your Dutch Food Master will explain everything about the Dutch and their cheeses.
After the cheese tasting, you’ll visit a typical Brown Bar (sometimes dating back to the 17th century!) for a simple pilsner beer and “bitterballen” (round balls filled with stew) or “kaasstengels” (cheese sticks).
- Zeedijk - At the lively Zeedijk, on the edge of the Red Light District, Amsterdam’s past and present converge. Here, your Dutch Food Master will let you taste Amsterdam’s best fries (with unique sauces like the delicious stew or rendang sauce, rarely found elsewhere!) at his favorite spot for fries. You’ll also get to try some delicious food from the Dutch former colonies Indonesia and Surinam, such as chicken with saté sauce (peanut sauce).
- Nieuwmarkt - At Nieuwmarkt, you’ll find a former city gate. Here, we’ll try some Dutch liqueur from an 18th-century drugstore.
- Spuistraat - We’ll visit a place for fresh stroopwafels, a typical Dutch delicacy.
- Molsteeg - Enjoy spectacular chocolate blocks. The Netherlands has a long tradition of importing cacao from all over the world through our harbors.
