Dutch Art in a Wonderful Nutshell - Two friends and I enjoyed Selma’s wonderful small group tour of the Rijksmuseum one afternoon. Due to our limited time in Amsterdam, we thought a guided tour of this wonderful museum would be the best way to appreciate it. Our guide Selma is a graduate student in art history, who first made sure we had our electronic tickets ahead of time - no waiting- and sent a photo of the meeting place inside the museum. She knowledgeably led our group of 5 on a tour of the major works of art in the museum, pointing out the details and significance that made them famous. We got to see the conservation specialists working on Rembrandt’s famous The Night Watch, and then examined a copy I. Detail as she identified the men in the painting and their roles at the time. Worth every penny!

Dutch Art 101 in an afternoon - A grad student in Art History, Selma, led our tour group of 6, and in a brief time showed us the major works of Dutch, explaining what made each stand out and pointing out details we would have missed on our own. The special treat was watching restorers work on The Night Watch. By the way, don’t miss the hot chocolate in the museum café! We had only a day in Amsterdam on our own before our cruise, and this tour checked off this bucket list item I’ve wanted to see for years.

Best way to discover a museum - We had a great tour with Daan. He showed us the Rijksmuseum with a lot of details, personal touch and easy access even for us who normally are not so into art and history. We really enjoyed it thanks to his tour.

The best way to end the year!!! - Visiting the Rijksmuseum with Daan Mens as our guide was an unforgettable experience! The tour was incredibly informative and engaging, and I genuinely cannot imagine exploring the museum without his expert guidance.
Daan is a local with an impressive depth of knowledge about Dutch art, history, and culture. His storytelling brings the works of Rembrandt, Vermeer, and other masters to life in ways that a casual visit simply can’t. He shared fascinating insights and anecdotes that you’d never get from just reading the plaques or an audio guide.
His passion for the subject matter is infectious, and he has a natural talent for making even complex topics accessible and interesting. The experience was not only educational but also fun and dynamic, leaving me with a newfound appreciation for the masterpieces housed in the Rijksmuseum.
If you’re planning to visit the museum, I wholeheartedly recommend booking a tour with Daan. It’s an investment that will elevate your visit to a whole new level. Five stars without hesitation!

Great way to see highlights - This was a very good way to see some of the best highlights of the museum. We only had enough time for some parts of the museum and Selma was very good in guiding us through the different exhibits and providing very interesting historical information and artistic insights.
From my middle-schooler who was with us: The tour was amazing! I really enjoyed learning about the backstories of all the paintings and statues. I am so glad I went on this tour because it really helped me gain such an incredible insight and deep understanding of art. I highly recommend this tour.

Solid tour for art amateurs - Great tour from Daan who helped us with a 90 minute tour. Focused on the main gallery with Vermeer and Rembrandt and learned a lot of the back story to some of the Dutch masters. Museum was very busy but it was the holidays!

Bad client service - The communication about a change in meeting place was thru WhatsApp but it did not come through until late. The guide did not pick up phone despite multiple calls. We missed the tour and ended up booking our tickets on our own
Staff at the museum told us this was standard poor quality by Viator. Yhey also outlined that Viator overcharged significanty
Book this thru museum website. You will save money and the free audio tour is superb. Avoid Viator unless you like bad service and overpriced tours
