I'm still thinking about how good this tour was a year later - I am not usually one for guided tours, but my friends surprised me with this one, because they knew it appealed to my specific interests (Amsterdam and economics). And that's what made this tour so cool was how specific it got. Our guide, Edgar, was incredibly knowledgeable on the financial history of this city that's so important to the beginnings of capitalism. No matter how you feel about the c-word, capitalism shapes our world, and this tour gives you a detailed understanding of how Amsterdam is central to it. Edgar's knowledge on Rembrandt's crankiness with his clients, the beginnings of the Dutch stock exchange, the Dutch East India Company, the tulip mania, and Walraven van Hall, the banker who robbed a bank to stop the Nazis, made this tour a great afternoon. Edgar was also very friendly as he took us through the city. It's taken me a while to write this review (a whole year), but I was recently reminded how much tour companies depend on good reviews for people to find their good work. Let this late review come to some good use: This tour is so good, I'm still thinking about it a year later. Go ahead and take it.

Fantastic tour - Received this tour as a tip and gave it as a gift to mothers. With our notebook at the ready to write down the many facts and figures. And there are quite a few! Tijs is a fantastic storyteller with a good sense of humor.

Fantastic tour! - My second tour through Historical Amsterdam Tours. As a financial person, I wanted to know more about the financial tradition of Amsterdam. Tijs showed me details of the city that I, as a resident, had never heard of or seen. He enthusiastically took us from the trade fair square to Basel with his stories. Learned and laughed a lot!

Great experience with a group! - This is the second time we did the financial history in Amsterdam as an organization, the local guides are knowledgeable about Amsterdam financial history. The highlight for me was seeing the worlds first stock exchange and learning about VOC- The Dutch East Indian Company!

Informative - A very relaxed and experienced guide. Willing to talk and answer questions. The best investment knowledge is to buy high and sell low

Historical Tours are not only for visitors. - We’ve lived in Amsterdam for 10 years and finally took the time to learn more about the fascinating history. The financial tour did not disappoint - learning about both the financial innovations of the Dutch, but also the uncomfortable truths in its history. Thank you, Thijs, for the engaging tour!
