Highlights
  • Cafe Papeneiland - Dutch homemade apple pie and a drink to your liking served in one of the most beautiful Dutch ‘brown pubs’ of Amsterdam.
  • V.O.F. Butchery T.F.M. Louman - Sample some popular Dutch sausages in a butcher shop that has been run for over 130 years by the Louman family.

Replaced by other stops on Saturday and Sunday

  • Boca’s - Enjoy some highlights of the Indonesian and Surinamese cuisine with our own off the menu mini version of a ‘rijsttafel’ (‘ricetable’) that has been exclusively designed for us by our partner Boca’s. Being two former Dutch colonies these countries play a huge role in the Dutch history, culture and gastronomy.
  • Vishandel Centrum - The Dutch herring (haring) played a vital role in the Amsterdam history to become a major trading place and the richest city in the world in the 17-hundreds. Learn why so and try it together with the popular warm fried fish ‘kibbeling’.

Replaced on Saturday and Sunday by other stops

  • Bourgondisch Lifestyle Amsterdam - Forget about the many tourist cheese shops in Amsterdam selling you flavourless factory cheese and go for some world class Dutch artisanal cheese instead. Bourgondisch Lifestyle delivers over 300 varieties of cheese to national and international top restaurants and hotels. Try it for yourself in our own private tasting room.

  • Het West-Indisch Huis - Conclude your tour at the ‘birthplace of New York’ and discover why we call it this way in the former headquarters of the Dutch West Indian Company that is nowadays a stylish café restaurant. Try some ‘bitterballen’ and a drink, maybe you are up for a ‘jenever’?

  • Lindengracht Markt - If the weather permits , the Indonesian tasting as well as the fish tasting are on the Saturday market on Lindengracht in de Jordaan.

  • Emperor’s Canal (Keizersgracht) - We can’t let you go home without trying the ultimate Dutch cookie ‘stroopwafel’. For this we will visit the cozy confectionary and chocolate shop ‘T Goede Soet and next to this we will treat you to another Dutch classic: ‘boterkoek’ (‘butter cake’)

Additional Information

The Grand Dutch Food Tour presents an engaging, diverse, and thorough exploration of Dutch food and history.

What sets this tour apart is the variety of locations you’ll explore. For instance, you’ll savor homemade Dutch apple pie in a traditional ‘brown cafe,’ stop by an incredible cheese shop that ages its own cheeses in an ancient bunker, and conclude at the 17th-century former headquarters of the Dutch West India Company. This is where the plan was hatched to establish New Amsterdam, which later became known as New York.

Your journey will encompass the Jordaan neighborhood, constructed in the early 17th century to accommodate the numerous workers and immigrants flocking from all corners of Europe to find wealth in the thriving city of Amsterdam. Today, it’s perhaps the most preferred district among locals. Furthermore, we’ll guide you around the world-renowned Amsterdam canals and canal houses, homes and storage of the affluent merchants of the Golden Age, their goods coming from all over the globe.

  • The streets are wheelchair accessible but some indoor locations are small sized and have steps or narrow doors and therefor not wheelchair accessible. Seats are available at all indoor locations.

Excellent Customer Service! - We were visiting Amsterdam for only a few short hours as part of a cruise. With a group of six and a limited schedule, Amsterdam Food Tours offered to host us on a private tour, which we booked months in advance. Unfortunately, our transit of the North Sea was delayed and our stop in Amsterdam was ultimately cancelled all together. We were only able to give the tour less than 24h notice, but they were very gracious and we came to a fair resolution on payment. I was very impressed with how responsive and accommodating the tour operators were. We will definitely be getting to Amsterdam at some point in the future and I hope to be able to do this tour for real at that time!

The highlight of our weekend. - The highlight of a great weekend in Amsterdam was our walking food and history afternoon with Rudolph. He was so informative, friendly and led the tour brilliantly. The food was a real mixture of savoury and sweet, but all good quality and fun to try. The best was the apple pie we started with. All four of us in our party enjoyed the tour and I Would thoroughly recommend, especially if you like history and food.
