Excellent cycling tour of Amsterdam - An excellent tour of the historic centre and parks. The guide was well-informed and full of stories, and the stops along the way were welcome so we could learn more of the history of Amsterdam and have a short rest. Not recommended for young children as it’s about 15 km, otherwise a great way to spend an afternoon. Highly recommended.

Highly recommend-Guided bike tour - Pranay our guide was amazing very informative, took us all round Amsterdam, didn’t realise there were so many canals Stopping along the way to explain the history. We had a 20 min break in the beautiful big park where there is a large cafes. We were very luck as we were the only two on the bike ride with him. Very comfy upright bikes. Managed to dodge the rain while out cycling. Wasn’t scared by other bikes or cars all went smoothly. Highly recommend!! Gives you a very good understanding of the place.

Must have done - We had a great bike tour with Miriam in German. She guided us through the city with great care, humor and information. We learned and saw a lot and would definitely recommend the tour. It took 3.5 hours with a short break in Vondelpark and we covered around 15 km.

Highly Recommended! - We were a great little group of just six people. Our tour guide Mr. Rad led us through Amsterdam with absolute safety, great knowledge and a lot of enthusiasm. This made the bike tour very relaxing and exciting at the same time. It is one of our highlights in Amsterdam.

YES to historical bike tours, but not with this company - I would highly recommend that you take a bike tour of Amsterdam to experience the world on wheels the way they do; I would also highly recommend that you NOT do it with this particular company. I took the Historical Tour on July 18. The incompetence began from check-in. I arrived early; I showed them my confirmation on my phone; I stood where they told me to stand and did what they told me to do; and they still put me with the wrong group. If I hadn’t caught the mistake (because I was listening carefully and trying to make sense of the chaos), I would have been on a bike out to the countryside instead of around the city. (Which might have been preferable, but that’s a different story.) I made it known that I was in the wrong group, switched bikes, waited some more and tried to understand why this all felt so chaotic when they do it every day - surely they have systems for this? Then the group of English-speakers was assembled and we were off, and it was a three-hour slog with respect to both the history and the cycling. Our guide - I didn’t catch his name and/or just don’t remember - was well-meaning and clearly wanted to share what he knew about Amsterdam. It’s not that he didn’t care or didn’t want to do a good job. But his commend of English was only basic, and his delivery of the information was so labored - I couldn’t decide if that was part of his professorial “style” or just a function of his grasp of English - that it was a chore to listen to him. We would bike a little, stop, de-bike, listen to him, get back on our bikes, and do it again 10 times. I had already learned half of what he told us by watching the Rick Steves Amsterdam episode on YouTube. With regard to the biking, according to my watch we covered about 9 miles in 3 hours. So it was NOT that much time on the bike. It’s more time standing around. And if you sign up for the tour thinking (as I did) “well Amsterdam has a very specific cycling culture, let me sign up for a group tour because that way there is safety in numbers and everyone will get around well and capably” then you are thinking about it wrong - many people who signed up for my tour seemed to have difficulty on a bike - difficulty going single-file, difficulty starting from a stop, difficulty dealing with traffic…..so your tour mates expose you to more danger, not less. And despite the fact that AmsterBike tells you that they provide water on their website, please note that water is NOT provided (on a three-hour ride in July, helpfully) - it is available for purchase at the end. So if you were relying on them to help provision you because you don’t have a water bottle on you and you think “oh nice, they provide water, one less thing to think about” then again that’s a miscalculation. On the plus side, I did learn some things, and our guide had some interesting perspective on gentrification and over-tourism and the WWII era and Amsterdam’s liberalism (separate topics at separate stops), and I did take a 9 mile loop around the city that I otherwise would not have known to navigate on my own, and yes I saw Amsterdam the way the locals do. But I would recommend that you seek out a different way to have this experience, one that has better offerings as far as both the history and the biking. Seems like there are other companies that do this kind of thing, I saw them when we were out and about. Last note - the AmsterBike shop that you start and end at is right next to the cruise terminal (I didn’t realize this when I signed up). I am not a cruiser myself, but maybe cruisers would like the convenience of spending their time ashore without having to walk any distance. Seems like from where they are located that this is AmsterBike’s bread-and-butter. Otherwise, I am sure you can find better.

Had to pay twice - We paid full price in advance, but when we came to the meeting place, they said they can't locate our reservation and we had to pay full price on spot. This is very confusing and disappointing. Waiting for the refund.
