A quick intro to Tbilisi, and Georgian food and wine - If you have limited time in Tbilisi or you are looking for an orientation tour of the city, this will be perfect for you. The wines in "Wine Tower" are of course Georgian, but they also stock various types of chacha - the shop manager, Zura, speaks very good English and is very knowledgeable about their wines etc (never a bad thing if you are selling a product) - pace yourself with the tasting or you will leave with a load of bottles that you will have to carry for the rest of the tour. I was sensible, and just bought two bottles of wine, and a bottle of chacha matured in oak barrels. It is just a short walk through a narrow street with restaurants to the Meidan Bazaar - an underground shopping area - very atmospheric, but to be honest i cannot remember anything remarkable about the shops. After wandering through the bazaar you come out at the other side of Gorgasali Square from where you then visit the old part of Tbilisi (perhaps one of my favourite places ever). Georgian bread is delicious with various varieties - and then there are the stuffed breads. I really liked lobiani, but if you have more time in Tbilisi I would recommend kachapuri. And also khinkali. Giga the guide who has an extensive knowledge of his beloved Tbilisi can tell you the best places to try them. But i digress - whilst not part of the tour, I earlier had the chance to watch churchkhela being made - do try it, I love it.
