Real Cultural Experience - What a special place! More than a museum, ANHC provides a way for visitors to learn about native culture with live dance and drum performances. The young staff brought an energy to their performance and were available to take questions. Outside the building were very well done examples of different types of native housing by region. This interactive experience with the staff made the visit more than just going to a museum. My only wish was that the gift shop contains more Native Alaskan arts and crafts for purchase - like baskets, birch containers and textiles. Many of the objects were “native inspired” and made in China. This was very disappointing.

Dive Into Indigenous Culture - A must-see when travelling to Anchorage. Beautiful campus. Nice museum-lite with live demonstrations. The day we were there young indigenous people were doing a sports display (I got to watch a young man kick a ball suspended 10 feet in the air) and native dance. We then went outside and walked counter-clockwise around the lake, visiting mini-villages that recreated traditional life. Guides were excellent. There is also a nice little cafe with GREAT coffee.

Good place to learn about Native Alaskan Heritage. - This was a good experiential way to learn about the native people of Alaska. Agree with other comments that the main building exhibits were somewhat lacking, but the tour was very interesting. We were led by an amazing young teenager Shyann, who did a super job sharing about the heritage of the native Alaskans. She also participated in the native dance. A very cool element is the number of natives that are involved in demonstrations and guest relations, especially many young people who are learning about their culture. Recommend it if you have some time while in Anchorage.

Educational and research type - This is more educational and research type, but marketed as entertainment. Out of the way. We went by Uber but could not get Uber to get back. They have shuttle bus, we waited for an hour and told 3-4 people that we will be waiting. We went to the shuttle pick up place 5 minutes before departure time and were told that it had left. We had to get a taxi to get back to town.
