Great tour, well run company - Chad and Ben did a great job locating a remote and picturesque spot to view and photograph the aurora. What sets Alaska Photo Treks apart is their "Go/No go" policy and communications. They don't want to waste the time or money of customers if the probability of seeing is low. Anna (office manager) is fabulous and a great communicator. To make sure she reached us she texted and called (when there was an urgent update). We have been on 5 different aurora photo chases and we can highly recommend Alaska Photo Treks. Its a very well run company.

Beauty in the night! - My mom and I absolutely loved this tour. Our guide did everything he could to find some of the lights despite the brightness of the moon. We found a few places where the lights were visible, but we were awed even more by the beauty of the snow covered mountains in the moonlight!!

Highly recommend - Our tour guides Jody and Anna were amazing, warm, knowledgeable and friendly, they couldn’t have been more accommodating. I booked last minute and I am so happy for the opportunity to have experienced the auroras, especially with Jody and Anna! Highly recommend Alaska Photo Treks. Jessica B

2nd try - I had booked a 4 day tour and the first 2 days the tour was cancelled. My heart sank. On the third night, we were given the choice of "guest's discretion," I jumped at the opportunity. Our guide was Cory and he was very honest in telling us that there is minimal chance of viewing the aurora because the Kp was at 1.33 and couldn't get any lower. But he said, "you never know!" He drove us to Knik River and he tried not to let us get excited, but Cory saw a glimmer of hope after constantly checking his app. Well, wouldn't you know it... Miss Aurora greeted us with a little glow, but had good vibrant colors of red, green, pink. yellow. The sky was so clear that night, the Big Dipper was so bright. On the fourth night, I didn't think the tour was proceeding because it was so cloudy in Anchorage, yet Anna said it's a GO! Anna and Jody took us all the way to Talkeetna! This time the aurora was spectacular! The Aurora was dancing and swirling, all I could ask for. I just want to say that this tour company know what they are doing. They are trust worthy and will take you only if they think you will get to watch the aurora.

Ready to go again… - Such a great night out to see some northern lights. The aurora itself was a little faint, but Colin made sure that we were able to see it and capture it with our cameras. His coaching made all the difference in getting frustration-free photos. He shared a wealth of knowledge on the science of the aurora and found the perfect spot - dark and open with mountains in the background. A fun night I would happily repeat!

Fun filled tour - Had an amazing time on this tour! I enjoyed the communication before and after the tour. We were given the opportunity to cancel because of the lower possibility of viewing the aurora lights and I appreciated that. They gave plenty of explanation of why it may be harder to see and offered a refund or different day. They did need atleast 2 folks to go out to make the trip. I opted to go for the experience and I’m glad I did. Cory was our guide and he was phenomenal! It was me and three other people which I loved. It definitely got nippy at night and Cory left the van (which was very comfortable and nice) running in case we wanted to escape the cold. Cory provided us with plenty of information and awesome facts before and during the tour. We stopped on the way there to the bathroom and it’s about a 2 hour trip each way. We went to a couple different locations and at the last location, we were able to see the lights! It wasn’t super bright given the brightness of the moon however, much brighter when looking through your camera and taking photos. I actually used my iPhone 14 Pro Max and had great shots on night mode! Cory also took complimentary photos of us with his camera and made us hot chocolate and hot cider! Cory was incredibly kind, personable and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour company!

Ben and Chad awesome light tour. - Impressed. The tour cancelled of tour for the previous night as conditions weren't favorable for viewing (I sure some companies run regardless and get your money). This group cancelled and we were able to reschedule for a "favorable" night. We were picked up at 10pm and off in search of aurora's. While driving our guide "Chad" knew everyone about auroras and taught us the fundamentals about them learning what and how they are caused. Magnetic energy at the poles and the charger protons emitted by the sun. We got, many, many pictures of auroras. Our guides taught us the best camera setting and adjustments needed. This was awesome. Would definitely do this tour again. Thanks Ben and Chad. -steve

Disappointing experience and lack of response from tour operator. - We were disappointed that the lights were not visible on our tour. The van was quite uncomfortable with very little leg room. Water and snacks were advertised, yet snacks were not provided until around 2 am. The tour guide instructed us to call the office to reschedule or see if another tour might be offered which we did the next day. No response was received to the voice message left on the office phone. All would have been forgiven if a response had been received. A refund has been requested, although I don't hold much hope of receiving a response.
