Good 1/2 day trip while in anchorage - Great tour to see the wildlife, a glacier and get history about Anchorage and Alaska. Matt was our tour guide and was a wealth of information. We saw eagles, dall ram sheep and some beluga whales on the trip!

A nice way to get out of Anchorage for an afternoon - The pick up location is convenient at the Log Cabin Visitor Center and it's a smaller vehicle (~12 people) which is much better than a bus (in my opinion). Vehicle was comfortable and Matt was clearly very knowledgeable about the area, the route, and how to get the most out of the trip. We got to see a good portion of Seward Highway south of Anchorage, had time at the wildlife conversation center (it was quick but enough time), and a few scenic stop offs to get out and get photos (Matt would take photos of your group if you wanted, which was nice), and then to the Portage Glacier and onto the boat. It was an overcast/rainy day (good taste of what was to come in Alaska) but lovely scenery. Good excursion.

Ice ice bby - This trip was an adventure in and of itself. First off, all you have to do is get to the Westmark Hotel and you’ll be picked up on a cruise bus. They handle all the driving, so you don’t have to stress. If you’ve been driving for majority of your trip, this is a plus bc you’ll be able to enjoy the ride. It takes about 1-1.5 hours to get to Portage from Downtown Anchorage. Then you’ll hop on the Ptarmagan boat. Don’t worry if you are the last to board. Once the boat leave the dock, you’ll be able to move around the vicinity, so you don’t have to pout for not being seated next to the windows. The cruise ship lets you walk around everywhere so that’s great for pictures. The cruise itself is one hour. Afterwards, you’ll get a bonus adventure, you’ll go to the Wildlife Conservation, where you’ll get to see wildlife and eat food or stop at the gift shop. I was able to see 2 black bears, mouse, wolves, reindeer, bison, etc. Such a wonderful experience. Dress for the glacier, a rain jacket is suffice. Recommend!

Awesome scenes in bad weather, marred by pompous guide - Should have been delightful afternoon treated to the spectacular Alaskan scenes. The pompous guide with a drill Sargent demeanor spoiled it all. Down to when to get off, where to stand for photo, how many seconds we have... herding us like recruits was rude and took away from the trip and the knowledge the guide had.
