Highlights
  • Zona Balnear da Silveira - The Silveira Bathing Area, approximately 1.5 km from the historic center of Angra do Heroísmo, today occupies the pier and ramp of an old fishing port and support for maritime transport, more used on those days when storms East prevented operations in Angra Bay. Today it is one of the most pleasant and popular places in the municipality for sea bathing, and sometimes, outside of the bathing season, it is the venue for sporting events, such as swimming and canoeing.
  • Miradouro do Pico das Cruzinhas - It is located at the top of Cruzinhas peak, one of the four peaks of Monte Brasil, in an area of great scenic and historical importance for Terceira. It is part of the Monte Brasil Recreational Forest Reserve.
From this viewpoint you can enjoy a panoramic view over the entire south coast of the island, including the Ilhéus das Cabras, the parish of Porto Judeu, Ribeirinha, the Serra da Ribeirinha, the Historic Center of Angra do Heroísmo, the Serra do Morião, the parish of São Mateus da Calheta and the Santa Bárbara mountain range.
  • Church of the Holy Savior’s Cathedral - The Church of the Santíssimo Salvador da Sé, also referred to as Sé de Angra do Heroísmo, cathedral of Angra do Heroísmo, parish church of Sé or Church of the holy savior, is located in the parish of Sé, in the historic center of the city and municipality of Angra of Heroísmo, on the island of Terceira, in the Azores.
  • Portas da Cidade - The Pátio da Alfândega, at the east of the Customs House, favored traders who, during the 16th and 17th centuries, could see, from above the wall, the goods on the quay below. In the second half of the 18th century, the courtyard was altered, by order of the Captain-General, receiving a noble staircase and doors topped by arches, in order to dignify the access to the then capital of the Azores.
  • Monumento ao Toiro - The Monument to the Bull, an 11-meter-high sculpture covered in bronze, pays homage to the bullfighting culture of the island of Terceira. It was designed by Terceira artist Renato Costa e Silva. It is made up of a set of three bulls, inserted into a cylinder, which are in different positions, which allow a free interpretation of the various forms of bullfighting. Built by the Tertúlia Tauromáquica Terceirense, the monument pays homage to the bull, cattle ranchers, capinhas, shepherds, bullfighting riders, bullfighters and all those who contribute to keeping the culture alive and intensely experienced. It is also a symbol of the resilience of the people of Terceira, in the victory that was achieved with the help of bulls or wild prayers, in the famous battle of Salga.
  • Alto da Memoria - In this place, the captain of the grantee João Vaz Corte Real built the first fortification of the old Angra, the so-called Castelo dos Moinhos, around 1474. This fortification, far from the sea, reflected a late-medieval, European and Mediterranean conception of defense in Acropolis.
The obelisk that characterizes it today was erected in the 19th century in honor of Pedro IV of Portugal’s passage through Terceira, in the context of the Portuguese Civil War (1828-1834).

Fun and informative walk - For visitors who do not want to spend 3 hours on a cultural walking tour in a group and with a guide (or who cannot walk or with difficulty), this option is entirely suitable. With an average duration of 1h30 to 2h, it allows a synthetic panoramic tour of the city including Monte Brasil, while providing some historical information (the audiophone allows you to choose your language, including French which is rarely spoken by the guides) . This gives a good first overview of the city's centers of interest and then possibly go there on foot alone the following days (Cathedral, Duque de Terceira Garden, Palacio dos Capitaes, Angra Museum, Military Museum, Convento de Sao Gonçalo, Food market Duke of Bragança...) Do not hesitate to ask Filipe questions, he will be happy to give you additional information For history buffs who want a more complete visit, it may be preferable to choose a guided walking tour of the city (much longer) Just know how to choose the formula that suits you best. For my part, this one has a lot more for me

A Bird's Eye View of a Fascinating City - THE best tour we have ever taken!! We were the only people on the tour given by the owner of the company who has a passion for history and a deep pride of country. We came away not just learning facts but gaining understanding of the beautiful island of Terceira.

Amazing - A great introduction to Angra do Heroismo — and Filipe proved to be equally knowledgeable and engaging when he offered commentary in addition to what was recorded on his bus’s system.
