Additional Information

Embark on a culinary adventure around Terceira Island with this tour. We start off in Angra do Heroísmo and head towards São Mateus in the morning. São Mateus is the island’s biggest fishing town and gives us a chance to explore the fish market, tour a whaling museum and sample local fish and seafood.

Our journey takes us to Cinco Ribeiras next, stopping at a local cheese production unit, Queijo Vaquinha. Here, we relish various types of cheeses and traditional Azorean bread.

We carry on our coastal voyage, heading to Serreta next for a lunch that includes Terceira Island’s most acclaimed dish, Alcatra. There’ll also be sausage, black pudding, fried pork, strips of liver, sweet potatoes, and corn cakes, all cooked in traditional style.

Post lunch, we venture northwards to Biscoitos, a wine region offering the opportunity to drop by a local vineyard and taste local wines and liquors.

Despite a full meal, do save room for refreshing ice cream from Quinta dos Açores, enjoyed along with pleasing views.

Perfect for Food Lovers! - Excellent tour! We can’t say enough good things about our guide, Filipe, and this tour!! We got to see so much of Terceira and taste the delicious food it has to offer. From the fresh cheeses to the incredibly fresh seafood - you can’t ask for anything better. We also got to try the local ice cream and other “must-haves” in Terceira, such as the limpets and barnacles. If you like food and seeing beautiful things, take this tour!! Filipe is also incredibly knowledgeable about the island and provided information in such a way that you just kept wanting to hear more. Such a fabulous experience!

Great history and food tour - Felipe was a great guide. He knew so much history of the island and so much about the local food. We experienced fish, cheese, a whole lunch featuring beef alcatra, wine, and ice cream. We got to see more than half the island while enjoying great food. Definitely book this tour if you want to learn about Terceira, Azores and its great food.

Food, culture and history of Terceira, Azores - This tour is essential for visitors to Terceira. Felipe was totally knowledgeable about the island, and clearly conveyed this important aspect of Terceiran culture. Especially enjoyable we’re the visit to the seafood restaurant (do not skip the barnacles), the traditional lunch, and most of all, the visit to winemaker Sandro Rocha Mendonça, an innovative wine entrepreneur seeking to improve the quality and reputation of the wineries of Terceira. A++

Eat your way around Terceira Island - The highlight of our trip was our tour guide Filipe, he left no stone unturned to show us a terrific time! We were warned that our stomach's would be full, and it wasn't an empty promise! So many good things to eat and try, the variety was amazing. Some were genuine surprise and not something you would stumble across on your own. The seafood restaurant was such a great experience that we came back later and had a full dinner there.

WorthWhile Adventure - We wanted to experience as much of Terceira Island as possible and trusted AzoreBus Tours to do that for us. We were not disappointed. Experiencing the Island from land and sea gave us the full experience. Fillipe was very knowledgeable and proud of Terceira making the tour that much more enjoyable. The Sea excursion was breathtaking even though we only saw dolphins that day. Boat and Bus were very clean as is the Island. Lunch was scrumptious. Worth the time and money.

Partnership that is but is not - A little frustrated, because what was described in the gastronomic itinerary information was not fully fulfilled. They should have an alternative if the first option fails. What was mentioned in the proposal was the tasting of fish and seafood, which was limited to a simple dish of limpets in the Azorean fashion and which looked more like a shoe sole. Furthermore, it was mentioned that there was a visit to a fish market, which did not happen, the visit was made to a fish market selling frozen products, nothing like a fresh fish market, something that should not be missing in the islands of Açores.
