Highlights
  • Miradouro do Pico das Cruzinhas - A viewpoint offering a panoramic view of Angra do Heroísmo from Monte Brasil.
  • Estátua Vasco Da Gama - In 1499, Vasco da Gama’s fleet returned to Lisbon from its first voyage to India. Due to the need to catch favorable winds and the worsening illness of Paulo da Gama, the fleet approached the Azores and disembarked on Terceira island.

Paulo Gama, Vasco’s brother, passed away and was buried in a shallow grave marked by a marble stone with his name, as noted by Damião Góis. This grave is located on the porch of the sacristy of the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guia, now the Angra do Heroísmo Museum.

Other sources mention that Vasco da Gama was deeply affected by his brother’s death and stayed in Terceira for 1 to 3 months.

  • Bull Monument - A monument dedicated to the bull.
  • Miradouro da Serretinha Feteira - A viewpoint offering views of Ilheu das Cabras.
  • Piscinas naturais da Salga - Located 12.1 km from Angra do Heroísmo, this is one of the most prominent bays in the municipality.

It features an extensive solarium and two jetties with stairs leading to the sea. It also has a semi-natural swimming pool popular with children.

A monument and a tombstone at the site commemorate the famous Battle of Salga in 1581, where local residents used wild cattle to repel the landing Castilian troops.

  • Vila de Sao Sebastiao - The oldest village on the island, home to the island’s oldest church.
  • Serra do Cume Viewpoint - A renowned viewpoint offering views of the patchwork landscape.
  • Praia da Vitoria - The island’s second-largest city.
  • Miradouro Do Facho - A viewpoint overlooking Praia da Vitória.
  • Algar do Carvao - A geosite and natural monument featuring a visitable volcanic chimney.
  • Piscinas Naturais Biscoitos - Natural swimming pools.

Love terceira for its wilderness - I got stunned for the hospitality, the island beauty and the food. we stayed at Praia de Vitoria not far from the Airport at Branco 1 Hotel. We enjoyed every single corner of the island from Angra do heroismo, Porto Judeu, Porto do Cabo, Porto Martins. We enjoyed the natural pools (piscinas naturales) of every municipalities andI preferred Porto Martins for the high water and very rough waves. We rented a car at the hotel and we went all around the island including the inner side. We visited Parco de las merendas and Pico Alto, we got lost (voluntarily) in the countryside. The bst food was a barracuda (fish of the day later discovered) at Porto Judeu restaurant Biamar. we clibed the miraduro of Boa vista at Praia da Vitoria and laid on its sandy beach. Most of all I loved Terceira for the little modern impact on the environment and its wilderness; people were extremely friendly and food was excellent. Prices? Very low..... Miss Terceira. A day I will go back.

The incredible food in Angra do Heroismo, Terceira Azores - I'm a foodie, so every good vacation starts with lots of great food. If you are in the capital city of Angra do Heroismo, there is no shortage of excellent restaurants for everyone's taste. To name only a few, Mercatto di Osteria is absolutely phenomenal! Seafood, Steak, Pasta, and Pizza - all gourmet, and get ready to say, "This is the best ___, I ever had". Then there is Elio's - Fresh seafood, homemade local dishes, and pub atmosphere. They are going to have to roll you out of Elio's. Then there is "Tasca das Tias", which had the best Alcatra that I ate while on the island. Alcatra is a cut of beef that is baked in a terra cotta bowl in red wine sauce. It is so tender that you won't need teeth to eat it. Last but not least, you need to have lunch at "O Internacional" on Rua da Palha in Angra. The service is excellent and the servers (sisters I believe) are fun and welcoming. You will need to have a Bifana on Grandma's bread (Steak on a bun) with a "Chorizo a bombeira" (flaming Chorizo for sharing) - all washed down with a pint of Super Bock! There is a lot to see and do on the Island of Terceira but each day begins and ends with the great food and Azorean culture. Cheers

Excellent tour, highly recommend - We cannot recommend this tour enough. Filipe our guide was informative, friendly, generous , humorous, his knowledge of Terceira and The Azores is extensive . The tour bus is an added bonus with its sliding roof which aids seeing the spectacular views. This tour is excellent value for money. You will learn so much about the history, the geology and the people of Terceira.

Great way to experience Terceria - Highly recommend!! Got to see a lot of the island and local information! Our guide was able to provide insights on the different locals but also the economy and individual interests. Having the open top was nice in the good weather. Once we got into some local weather closing it up was quick and easy. We got to experience the local delicacies in a local spot we would not have ever found on our own. Food was delicious!! Highly recommend for anyone looking to experience the island.

Portuguese history expressed in an imaginative fun way - Philippe was amazing. We enjoyed his company for the long day and he kept his sense of humour and obvious love of relevant history flowing all day. He arrived on time and ensured all of us were able to take advantage of the tour by making it relevant to our home countries and interests. He drove very well throughout with no jerking and no complaints when idiots drove badly around him. We had enough time at all sites and ‘two and a half seconds’ for each photo shoot was plenty! Lunch was at an unexpected restaurant but was delicious. The beef stew is very filling so beware! Visiting the pools was interesting and seeing the Azoreans enjoying challenging Atlantic waves was an experience. There was time to swim and part of me regretted not taking swimming kit but a paddle was welcome. It’s a full day so the necessary slip, slap slop and meeting new people from all over the world is always fun. Thank you
