Highlights
  • Ankara Castle - The Ankara Castle is the birthplace and core of the Ancient City, dating back to the 3rd Century BC and built by the Celtic People. Subsequent civilizations enhanced the fortress, and the Old Town developed around it before the Turkish Republic was founded in 1923.
  • Museum of Anatolian Civilizations - Named the Best Museum of Europe in 1997, it showcases unique Anatolian Archaeology Artifacts from periods ranging from the Palaeolithic and Neolithic to the Hittite, Phrygian, and Urartian Civilizations. The museum houses many valuable items from the Hittite Civilization, particularly from Hattusa and Alacahöyük, as well as the Çatalhöyük Neolithic Settlement.
  • Temple of Augustus - This Roman temple was dedicated to Augustus, the first Roman Emperor. It is significant for having the Biography of Augustus, known as Res Gestae Divi Augusti, inscribed on its walls in Latin and Greek.
  • Haci Bayram Mosque (Haci Bayram Camii) - Dedicated to Hacı Bayram, a respected cleric and trade union leader in Ottoman Ankara, this mosque was built around 1428. His tomb is located next to the mosque and the Temple of Augustus.
  • Anitkabir - Known in Turkish as Anıtkabir, this is the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the national hero, savior of the Turkish Nation, and founder of Modern Turkey. Born in 1881 and died in 1938, Ataturk is honored with this mausoleum, which serves as a gathering and ceremonial place, as well as a museum. It is undoubtedly one of Ankara’s main highlights.
