Setting Sail with Paper Boat Charters

The Caribbean sun was just beginning to warm the day as I made my way to the Anse Marcel Marina. The anticipation of a new adventure was palpable, and I was eager to explore the islands by sea. As a former professional surfer, the ocean has always been my playground, and today promised to be another thrilling chapter in my island-hopping escapades.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by Elliot, the owner of Paper Boat Charters, and introduced to our captain for the day, Jean Claude, or JC as he preferred. With a wealth of experience navigating waters around the globe, JC exuded a calm confidence that immediately put me at ease. His easygoing nature and genuine hospitality set the tone for what would be an unforgettable day.

The boat, Naoli, was a beauty—spacious and equipped with all the amenities one could wish for. As we left the harbor, JC popped open a bottle of champagne, and we toasted to the adventure ahead with mimosas in hand. The gentle breeze and the sound of the waves were the perfect backdrop as we set our course for the day.

Island-Hopping and Hidden Gems

One of the highlights of the Paper Boat Charter experience was the freedom to chart our own course. JC was more than accommodating, eager to share his knowledge of the best spots around St. Barth. Our first stop was Dog Island, a secluded paradise where the turquoise waters beckoned us to dive in.

With snorkels and fins at the ready, I couldn’t resist exploring the vibrant underwater world. The coral reefs were teeming with life, and I found myself mesmerized by the dance of the fish beneath the waves. It was a reminder of why I fell in love with the ocean in the first place.

We continued our journey, visiting Meads Bay, Sandy Island, and Prickly Pear. Each location offered its own unique charm, from the powdery white sands to the lush greenery that framed the beaches. JC’s enthusiasm was infectious, and his stories of his travels added an extra layer of magic to the day.

A Day to Remember

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, we made our way back to the marina, our hearts full from a day well spent. JC’s hospitality extended beyond the boat, as he helped us find a local spot to catch a Celtics playoff game that evening. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.

The experience was so memorable that I couldn’t resist booking another trip with Paper Boat Charters later in the week. This time, we opted for a newer boat, complete with a Sea Bob for self-propelling through the Caribbean waters. Swimming alongside sea turtles was a surreal experience, one that I will cherish forever.

As we parted ways with JC and the Paper Boat Charters team, I felt a sense of gratitude for the incredible journey we had shared. JC had become more than just a captain; he was a friend. And as I continue to explore the beauty of island life, I know that this adventure will remain a cherished memory.
