Additional Information

Termessos (alternatively spelled Thermessos) was an ancient Pisidian metropolis erected over 1000 meters high on the southwestern part of Mount Solymos (present-day Gulluk Dagi), within the Taurus range.\n\nPositioned 30km northwest of Antalya, it was established upon a naturally elevated plateau atop Gulluk Dagi, which ascends to 1,665 meters, vastly towering over the average 200-meter-high travertine mountains that dot the Antalya region. Termessos is among the most intact and undisturbed historical cities in Turkey.\n\nAs part of the Termessos National Park, the site presents a unique combination of numerous uncommon flora and fauna species under conservation. Shrouded in wild flora and encircled by thick coniferous woodland, the locale, with its tranquil and pristine condition, projects a more profound and imposing presence than many other historical urban settlements.

Great experience - Ali and Mustafa provided a special day at this spectacular site!! They were able to allow me to get in when there were difficulties at the gate and then provided a well informed tour of an unusual set of ruins. If you want to see ruins as (almost) originally found, this is it. The mountain top setting provided dramatic views. Thanks to Ali and Mustafa for a great day!!

Exquisite private tour of Ancient Termessos - Superb private tour of Termessos. Very comfortable journey from our apartment to Termessos. Our caring, insightful guide, Mustafa then led us on a fabulous tour of the ancient streets, magnificent theatre (5k capacity) & necropolis of a stunning city perched on an almost impregnable mountaintop that, along with its fierce army, enabled the city to remain independent whilst both the Greek and Roman Empires conquered the surrounding lands. Mustafa was particularly good at explaining how the local history, and the artefacts and buildings we explored, fitted into the wider history of the region and achieved just the right level of insight and “commentary” without ever overloading us. We only came across a dozen or so other tourists during our 2-3 hour visit to Termessos - some of the terrain is a little tricky so sensible footwear is essential! Followed by a visit to Duden Waterfall - also quite interesting albeit rather touristy (and busy) after the seclusion and authenticity of Termessos (due to the waterfall’s proximity and ease of access from Antalya) yet complements Termessos nicely as this is where Alexander The Great’s army went for refreshments after deciding Termessos was too well-protected to engage in battle. Finished off with another smooth journey and drop off at our apartment door.
