Amazing! - Incredible experience with incredible guides. Ox was so well organized. The hike is HARD. I strongly recommend acclimating a few days prior and/or taking oxygen pills. There are frequent stops along the way to catch your breath, but even so, it’s nearly all uphill. That said, so worth it.

Highly recommend! - I did the overnight Acatenango hike in November and had a great time! The sunrise hike was HARD but totally worth it. Ox was fantastic - booking was easy, the pre-hike orientation was helpful, and everything on the hike went smoothly. Overall, this was one of my favorite travel experiences. Tips and info: Bring layers - the weather fluctuated throughout the day and it was freezing (and rainy) at base camp. The Ox loaner gear was okay - not great, but useable. In addition to your personal belongings, you’ll be asked to carry your lunch, dinner, and a communal food item (English muffins, wine, jam, etc.). Bring a small backpack for the Fuego and sunrise hikes and bring more snacks than you think you’ll need. Hiking sticks were so helpful and some people brought slippers to give their feet a break at base camp (my feet were jealous!).

Incredible Experience - Amazing experience with Ox. I did the Acatenango overnight tour. This company is so organized and detailed. I think they’re the only company who does a pre-hike group meeting the day before. They were very profesional, laid everything out for us the day before and I felt very prepared. All of the guides and porters were amazing but shout out to Gareth and Rolando for making this experience seamless. I can’t recommend this company enough!

Quality tour group with reasonable prices - We did two hiking trips with OX while we were in Antigua and both were great! Miguel, Lauren, and Garrett were awesome guides. The food was pretty good and the overall experience was well thought out and made as comfortable as possible.

OUR LEGS WERE SORE BUT OUR EYES WERE NOT! - I could not recommend Ox Expeditions more. 3 of our group completed the double whammy and the other two did base camp. Miguel was an incredible guide, the attention to detail was impeccable, the rental gear was all very high quality, and I really wouldn’t change anything about the experience. It was mind blowing to see Fuego erupt from such a close distance. I will never forget this experience!

Can't-miss hike to active volcano! Make sure to get Sergio! - This hike is a can’t-miss - getting to see an active volcano was truly once-in-a-lifetime, and we saw many other views and made great friends on our expedition. Sergio is the best outdoor guide I’ve ever had. Ox tours was a great company to work with, providing great info and almost all necessary gear, but Sergio really made the trip special with his positive energy and incredible spirit. Sergio was incredibly organized, poised, and capable of rallying a large group. He worked with our large tour of people with varying levels of hiking experience and capability, ensuring everyone got to the summit to see the views. On our tour, we experienced extremely heavy rain and tough trail conditions, but Sergio was there to encourage everyone and ensure success. Our group felt safe and were always having fun with Sergio in charge. I would highly recommend seeking out a tour with Sergio and Ox!

Bucket List Recommendations - It was an amazing experience- so happy we stayed overnight and it was so active. Guides were great, hike was hard but worth it. Pace yourself if not used to altitude. Only negative is outhouse is pretty stinky & steep. Steps down would be ideal if added so nighttime usage is easier. Overall highly recommend this company. Warm gear was so convenient.

Tour Guide - No Bueno - Coming from an experienced hiker who hesitates to do tours, I am utterly disappointed with this company. I've done many harder hikes and have always summited- at my speed. I was merely 15 minutes behind the group and was told by our guide (Gareth) that I would not be partaking in Fuego summit. I reminded him I signed up and paid for it. His response was one guide would have to stay behind to hike with me while the other guide would be ahead with the rest of the group (18 hikers). He indicated that I paid for a group tour not a private tour. They did not offer a refund nor express any sympathy. The guide did ask how I was doing at one point and I told him I was doing fine~ slow and steady. The encouragement I received was " Slow and steady is fine but you need to pick up the pace." My take away from this experience is this company accommodates one type of hikers. If you are not at the group' s pace, you will be made to feel deflated and unwelcomed. There are too many hikers (30+) for the number of guides provided. The food was mediocre~ tasteless pasta and stale cold bagels, the lodging was crowded (5 per cabin think sardines in a can). I cannot recommend this group. If you want a more accommodating and encouraging tour, look at other companies.

Don’t Book via Ox! - Absolutely horrible experience booking via Ox. Fell ill due to altitude but Ox wouldn’t refund or even give us a voucher for alternate dates or tours. Don’t book via Ox. Trek Guatemala is much better
