Do it! - Like the other reviews have said, this is GREAT! The driver will stop for coffee before leaving Antigua — cakes available, not really breakfast. But at least coffee, tea, and water. Horse sellers are very aggressive, but I get it.

Looking for affordable option from Antigua? With option of pizza Pacaya too? - We used Voyageurs tours from Antigua included shuttle and guide. You can book with Trip Advisor - their website links here. Shuttle picked up and dropped off at our hotel in Antigua and we were able to order Pizza Pacaya too. You just email them or WhatsApp and ask them for instructions if you want to do that. But the entrance is separate and 100 quetzales currently. The hike started difficult for me because of altitude and people on horses right on your heels but I’ve done similar hikes at lower elevation no problem and am not a sow hikers but once I slowed down a little bit from my normal pace and thanks to the guide I got my mind right it was fine after that. It was soft volcanic ash trail mostly up. We had clouds but still was amazing. If you think you can do it do not give in to the horses and take some deep breaths and I promise it gets a little easier on the lungs, just take your time! Our guide was Irwin/Mono. He enjoyed teaching us about the plants too and was so great! Never felt like we had to race up! That was a worry I had when I was reading reviews. PS some reviews talked about stopping for coffee on the ride? I’m not sure, but we never did. So take some snacks. There was a little place to buy food and snacks and drinks near top of the trail though and a lava store

Looking for an affordable shuttle with guide to hike Pacaya from Antigua - with pizza Pacaya option? - Perfect, exactly what I was looking for. Two options for times -a shuttle to Pacaya that did not break the bank, picked up and dropped off at our hotel in Antigua with a guide for the hike and an option for Pizza Pacaya! You do have to pay 100 Q entrance. and if you want pizza - you should message the company to get instructions and have money for this. Good communication from. Viator also. And, the guide was great! No rush! Allowed us to take our time if needed and taught us about plants and herbs too! Tip- do not let the people with the horses bother you. If you want to do this, just take some deep breaths and go slow!

Great views - Pick up - the bus drops you at the park, and you are met with local guides. They were knowledgable and ensured all in the group were ok when walking. Good hike, and great views on the top. The path is clearly marked, and there are nice view spots along the way.

Unique experience - It's amazing to be able to walk over the petrified lava and feel the heat coming out between the rocks. It's very worth it. The rise is not strong, but it is good to have a little preparation, in the last case hire horse service that the locals are offering.

Good hike - It's a very easy hike as it's only take 30 minutes to reach the top. It's steep but not a long distance. If you walk regularly this hike is easy. It took about 2hrs to complete the hike with multiple breaks. The driver and tour guide bothe spoke Spanish only. I got luck because one guy on this tour spoke English and Spanish ans was able to translate for all of us. Be careful walking down cause the rocks are very slippery

Guide ran ahead and did... - Guide ran ahead and did not wait for everyone to acclimate. Forced people to take the horses if they were a slow walker-not just individuals who couldn’t hike, but if they were slow.

Be prepared. The tour info doesn't tell you what you truly need - The tour was very badly organized . They did not tell us what to take to be prepared for the hike. They picked us up at our hotel with a small bus and then at some point transfered us to another bus where there were seats over the wheels with no leg room or seats in the middle which were super uncomfortable for over an hour drive.! It was super cold on top of the volcano. So if you are going there take warm clothes for the top. We took the afternoon hike. By the time we were coming down it was pitch dark. They did not tell us to bring any torch or light and the guide was just going fast in the front with no light. We had to use our phone flash lights the whole time and come very slowly not to slip which was not fun at all! Whilst the hoke is worth it the tour logistics and organization were extremely bad.
