El Valle de Antón is one of the rare locations globally where a community has developed within a volcanic caldera. This unique valley was created by a significant volcanic eruption around 5 million years ago. Following the eruption, the volcano’s crater collapsed, resulting in the formation of a caldera. As volcanic activity diminished, the crater filled with water, forming a lake. Over time, the water naturally drained away, leaving a fertile valley encircled by mountains and hills, which are the remains of the original volcanic structure.
