Savai'i is calling you. - About an hour away by ferry from Mulifanua In Upolu. Seated on the top deck, the sea seemed endless but the cool breeze was a God send. Once again, our wonderful tour guide Chris amazed us with his knowledge of the island interwoven with some great storytelling. Just like Upolu, Savai'i has some wonderfully and beautifully made creations, natural not by the hands of man. Blowholes in Alofaaga that has a story behind it. Take the time to read the history of each site that has been placed nearby. I am so blessed that my first international trip was to Samoa.

Savaii with Tai! - Tai provided us with the most informative, professional and fun experience! When things didn't quite go to plan with things out of his control, he pivoted and used his local connections to give us the best possible outcome. We learnt so much and got see some spectacular sights along the way! Our tour even concluded with a VIP ferry experience and a beer with a local legend. Thanks again Tai, we look forward to seeing you again in the future! Manuia!

Didnt get there. - Sadly we didn't get there. Chris was our driver and very knowledgeable. Sadly things turned for the worse. One of regular ferries was not operating and the replacement was a smaller ship.,On arrival at Mulifanua wharf is was chaos. This was a Saturday and Sunday was Father's Day in Samoa. Everybody goes home to their village. The chaos was worth the watch, but unfortunately we weren't able to secure a booking. So no visit to Savai'i. There appears to be no on line booking system, so be early.

Worst tour we have been on in 30 years - We booked a Southern Savaii tour from the tourist office in Upolu who phoned Sunshine Tours. He assured me that with a deposit of Tala 100 collected from our hotel, the balance could be paid via credit card on the day. A 6:30m pick up went smoothly but unfortunately the car developed a flat tyre and we arrived just in time to make the ferry. This meant we had to squeeze in outside at the back of the boat on a broken bench seat with the diesel fumes making the hour and a half journey very uncomfortable ( sea sickness). The Savaii tour operator had an agreement with Sunshine Tours and we went by mini bus along with the other couple to our first stop, the local markets. However we were only given 10 minutes there with 5 minutes finding the toilet. Second stop were the blow holes where the guide gave us a 2 minute explanation and led us to the plaque which had the same speil. We were looking forward to locals throwing coconuts into the holes and watching them soar, but we did not get off the track onto the sand/rocks. Back on the mini bus to the waterfall where he drove past the change rooms and toilets and parked 400 metres up the track close to the waterfall. By the time we walked back, changed and returned to the waterfall 15 minutes had elapsed so no swimming at such a beautiful location. We were to see Tapas making but for some reason we skipped this and went to our lunch stop. Our guide organised a table strait away and left us to have his lunch. We ordered soon after and received our drinks and patiently waited for the food. After about 45 minutes I got up to see were our meals were just as the guide came to pick us up. The food arrived soon after and we rushed through so we could get to the return ferry. We missed the ferry which left on time at 2pm so our guide left us at the wharf to wait for the 4pm ferry. On arrival in Upolu, our driver received a phone call from the operator who apologised for the delays but insisted I withdraw cash from the ATM as their credit card payment only works during office hours. All in all a most forgettable experience spoiling an otherwise enjoyable Samoan holiday . .
