The journey to Petra Visitors Center takes approximately 2 hours, where the walking tour to the World’s 8th wonder begins. After a walk of 800 meters, guests will reach the Siq, a rock canal that is 1200 meters long, 3 to 12 meters wide, and up to 80 meters high. The Siq opens up to Petra’s most stunning façade – the Treasury, or Al Khazna. Following the Treasury, the path widens into the Street of Facades, lined with tombs on both sides. This street leads to the 5,000-seat theatre, carved into a major cemetery area. Across from the theatre on the western side of Jebel Khubtha, guests will reach the final point – the Royal Tombs. After touring the Royal Tombs, the journey back to Aqaba begins. The remaining four hours are allocated for transportation.

The exact date of Petra’s establishment remains a mystery. However, its rise to prosperity as the capital of the Nabataean Empire began in the 1st century BC, catalyzed by the lucrative trade of frankincense, myrrh, and spices. The city, in its subsequent annexation to the Roman Empire, continued to flourish until a massive 363 AD earthquake that devastated large parts of the city in the 4th century AD.
