Highlights

Nukus - Aral Sea

Nukus - Nukus, the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan, is our starting point. From here, we will embark on a journey to the Yurt camp at the Aral Sea, approximately 400 km away, which takes about 7 hours by car.

Mizdakkhan - Mizdakhan is one of the oldest complexes in the region, where remnants of pagan beliefs are still evident.

Ships Cemetery - Once a bustling and significant city in Uzbekistan, it is now somberly known as the “Cemetery of Ships,” a stark reminder of human impact on nature. Here, we will have lunch with a Karakalpak family.

The Regional History and Aral Sea Museum - This museum offers insights into the historical background of the Aral Sea.

Ustyurt Plateau - Our next destination is the grand canyons of Uzbekistan, perfect for capturing stunning photographs of these white canyons. Additionally, we will visit a local family primarily involved in camel breeding.

Aral Sea - We will finally reach the Aral Sea, where we will spend the night in yurts. Before settling in, we will have ample time to swim or enjoy a walk on the beach. Dinner will be served in the open air (weather permitting), followed by a relaxing evening around the campfire.

Aral Sea - Nukus

The Regional History and Aral Sea Museum - At 08:00 in the morning, we will depart for Nukus, stopping en route at the ancient caravanserai Kurgancha. Kurgancha (12th – early 13th centuries) is an archaeological complex comprising a settlement, a tower, a pottery kiln, and various structures, representing a monument from the pre-Mongol period.

Nukus - After our return to Nukus from the Aral Sea, filled with memorable experiences, our extensive journey concludes. We will drop you off at your hotel or the Nukus airport.

Worth the effort - A bucket list adventure and worth the effort to get out to the Aral Sea. I spent one night in a yurt camp out at the edge of the sea and it was so peaceful
