Day 1: Arba Minch (Visit Dorze People)

Day 1: Arba Minch (Visit Dorze People)
Upon arrival, travel to the area where the Dorze people reside. The journey takes approximately one and a half hours, covering 36 km from Arba Minch at an altitude of 1400 m to the highland town of Chencha at 2900 m. Enjoy stunning views of Lake Abaya and Lake Chamo along the way. Visit the Dorze people, known for their iconic beehive-shaped huts, and witness the preparation of their staple food made from false banana. Sample their cuisine before returning to Arba Minch for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Arba Minch to Turmi, 277 km / ~5.5 hr
Continue traveling south through regions inhabited by the Konso, Tsamay, Arbore, and Hamar people. Visit the Dimeka market, held on Tuesdays and Saturdays, before proceeding to Turmi. Overnight stay in Turmi.
Day 3: Turmi to Kara Village
In the morning, drive to Kara Village, known as Duse or Labuck, approximately 80 km off-road. The Kara are a small tribe with a population between 1,000 and 3,000, living along the east banks of the Omo River in southern Ethiopia. They practice flood retreat cultivation, growing crops such as sorghum, maize, and beans. After visiting the village, return to Turmi for an overnight stay.
Day 4:
In the morning, visit a Nyangatom village before driving to the Karo village. Explore the Kara Tribe, renowned for their body paintings. (Distance & travel time: 101 km, 6 hours; accommodation: Turmi Hotel with portable shower and toilet; meals: full board.)
Day 5: From Turmi to Dassanech Tribe to Jinka
In the morning, drive 72 km / 1.5 hr to Omerate on the east bank of the Omo River. This is where the Dassanech people live, and you’ll cross the Omo River by local canoe to visit one of their villages. Thursdays are market days in Keyafer, one of the most vibrant markets in the area, attracting tribes such as the Hamer, Benna, and Karo. Afterward, drive to Jinka for an overnight stay.
Day 6: Jinka (Visit Mursi)
Today, explore more of the area around Jinka. In the morning, travel into Mago National Park to visit the Mursi, perhaps the most famous people of the Omo Valley. Don’t expect much wildlife on this brief visit to the park. After about a 2-hour drive, reach one of the villages where the Mursi people live. Return to Jinka for lunch and then head to the airport.
