Addis Ababa - Arba Minch
Dorze Village - Journeying south from the capital, this breathtaking trip takes you through the Great Rift Valley, with a lunch stop in Sodo. Continue along a picturesque route to the mountain village of Chencha, home to the Dorze people. They are famous for their cotton weaving, known as Shammas, and their unique towering beehive-shaped houses made from woven thatch. Witness the weaving of their huts and textiles, and the cultivation and production of the false banana tree, from which the Dorze make their traditional bread (kotcho). You can also try making Kocho. Then, proceed to Arba Minch. Optionally, enjoy a bonfire and a goat feast with the locals, participating in the cooking. Overnight in Dorze or Arba Minch.
Arba Minch - Turmi
Turmi - Visit Lake Chamo, part of Nechisar National Park, known for its large crocodile population. Explore the “crocodile market,” an area of the lake famous for its impressive crocodile gatherings. Hippos also inhabit the lake and may be seen. Travel from Arba Minch to Turmi, passing through the villages of Konso, home to the Konso people (market days Monday & Thursday), Weyto, home to the Tsemai tribe (market day Saturday), Key Afar, home to the Benna tribe (market day Thursday), and Dimeka (Hamer & Karo market, Tuesday & Saturday). Finally, arrive in Turmi, home of the Hamer tribe. At night, you might witness the traditional night dance of the Hamer people, known as evangadi. Overnight at a hotel of your choice.

Turmi - Depart for Jinka, passing through Dimeka and Key Afar. Tuesdays and Saturdays are market days in Dimeka, one of the most vibrant markets in the area, attracting many tribes, including Hamer, Benna, and Karo. Thursday is market day in Key Afar, where the Benna and Tsemai tribes trade goods. This is another popular market in the region. Overnight at Turmi Lodge.
Turmi - Jinka
Jinka - Head to Jinka, via Dimeka and Key Afar. Tuesdays and Saturdays are market days in Dimeka, a colorful market visited by many tribes, including Hamer, Benna, and Karo. Thursday is market day in Key Afar, where the Benna and Tsemai tribes trade goods. This is another popular market in the region. Overnight at Nasa Hotel.
Dimeka Town - If it’s Tuesday, visit the vibrant Alduba market and continue to explore the beautiful Bena tribes.
Jinka - Mago National Park
Jinka - In the morning, travel through Mago National Park to a local Mursi tribe village. Mursi women are known for their lower lip and earlobe plates – the larger the lip plate, the higher the bride price they receive when married. In the afternoon, return to Jinka and visit the South Omo Museum & Research Center to learn more about the local tribes. Additionally, hike in the surrounding hills to visit a local Ari village and discover how the locals perform various tasks, such as blacksmithing and distilling the local gin, known as areki. Overnight at NASA Hotel.
Key Afer - Visit the Keye Afar market and the Ari village.
Jinka - Konso - Arba Minch
Konso - Depart from Jinka, traveling to Konso via Key Afar. Thursday is market day in Key Afar, where the Benna and Tsemai tribes trade goods. This is one of the most popular markets in the region. The Konso people are renowned for their wooden statues, known as wakas, erected in honor of deceased heroes, and their innovative agricultural terracing. Today, visit a local village and the cultural museum displaying many waka statues. If time permits, visit the “natural New York Village,” named for its tall sand formations resembling skyscrapers. Market days in Konso are Monday and Thursday. Depart from Konso to Arba Minch. Overnight at Mora Height Lodge.
Arba Minch - Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa - Early in the morning, depart from Arba Minch for a full day’s drive back to Addis Ababa. Time permitting, visit any archaeological sites not explored on the first day. Optionally, enjoy shopping in the evening and attend a folkloric dinner where you can taste various national dishes and watch dances from Ethiopia’s diverse ethnic groups. The traditional coffee ceremony will also be served. Then, according to your departure schedule, you will be transferred to the airport. (B, L, D)
