Visitors can admire remarkable sculptures, including the temple of Zeus’s decorations, the renowned Hermes of Praxiteles, and the statue of Nike of Paionios.
- Archaeological Museum of Olympia - The Archaeological Museum of Olympia is among Greece’s most significant museums. Its exhibition showcases extraordinary masterpieces from the rich history of the Olympic Games’ origin and thousands of years of art. The exhibits are organized in chronological and thematic order, spanning from Prehistoric to Roman times. Highlights include the sculptures from the temple of Zeus, the “Nike of Paionios,” and the “Hermes” of Praxiteles, which is possibly the only surviving original statue by the famous sculptor. Visitors can also enjoy a vast array of bronze objects, including human and animal figurines, cauldrons, tripods, griffins, sphinxes, and various weapons, vessels, and exquisite examples of toreutic art. Begin your adventure at Ancient Olympia, the origin of the Olympic Games. Explore the archaeological site, where the ancient stadium, temples, and training grounds once hosted the most esteemed athletic event of the ancient world. Proceed to the Archaeological Museum of Olympia, which houses extraordinary artifacts.
Then, delve into the art of marble sculpting with a 45-minute workshop conducted by the esteemed artist Alexandros Papalabros. A graduate of the Tinos Fine Arts College, Papalabros has contributed to Greece’s major archaeological sites, including the Acropolis of Athens and Ancient Olympia, with one of his recent projects being the restoration of King Ptolemy’s column.
In this interactive session, participants will learn about the skill involved in marble carving and its profound connection to Greek heritage.
After the workshop, enjoy some leisure time in the village of Olympia.
