The Misti Volcano Trekking Tour offers an exhilarating high-altitude adventure, allowing participants to ascend the Misti Volcano. Situated at the base of the Chili Valley, 2,400 meters above sea level, within the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, this trek does not require technical climbing skills. Misti is a stratovolcano made up of ash and volcanic lava, making it accessible for those passionate about extreme sports.
The primary challenge in climbing Misti Volcano is navigating the volcanic ash and sand, which can sometimes form dunes. These elements add a layer of difficulty to the ascent. The volcano is approximately 800,000 years old and was referred to as the “volcano without a name” during colonial times. According to local legends, ethnic groups living near the crater were forced to flee due to an eruption, and upon their return, they named the volcano as a form of admonishment.
