This excursion takes you through the primary locations of the Somme Battles in 1916 and 1918, making it a comfortable day trip from PARIS (just an hour train ride). We initiate and conclude our tours adjacent to the ARRAS train station.
We will explore the key 1916 battle areas: such as the awe-inspiring ‘Lochnagar’ mine pit, Pozieres, the Thiepval…
This excursion takes you through the primary locations of the Somme Battles in 1916 and 1918, making it a comfortable day trip from PARIS (just an hour train ride). We initiate and conclude our tours adjacent to the ARRAS train station.
We will explore the key 1916 battle areas: such as the awe-inspiring ‘Lochnagar’ mine pit, Pozieres, the Thiepval missing memorial, and the conserved battlefields of Beaumont-Hamel. Following a lunch halt at Albert along with a tour of the 1916 Somme underground museum, we will proceed to the 1918 battle locations: the Villers-Bretonneux Australian tribute and if open on the day, the new John Monash centre, including the spots of the renown August 1918 allied counter-attack. After this poignant day, we will return to ARRAS.

Fabulous experience - Our battlefields tour was a fabulous experience and one that I have wanted to do for many years. It was beautiful, moving, enlightening and at times a bit overwhelming. Silvestre was an excellent guide with an extensive depth of knowledge and he ensured our day was very enjoyable. Absolute professional. All aspects of the itinerary were interesting and worthwhile, and we were given plenty of time to immerse ourselves in the whole experience. Totally worth it.

Fantastic tour with deeply knowledgeable guide. - Our tour with Sylvester was simply outstanding. He's been giving tours for 19 years and clearly shows his understanding of both the history and significance of each location but also gets deeply into what we personally want to get out of the trip. He was able to solve a long mystery for one member of our group - we found the memorial for his great grandfather who was lost at the battle of the Somme.
Sylvester's guidance was priceless for our trip. We would do it again in a heartbeat.

Don’t pass this up - Had been on my bucket list for years. Sylvestre was excellent. He is extremely knowledgeable and tailors the tour to suit his guests. I will be coming back for more tours of other battlegrounds in the future.

Full day tour - Sylvester was great, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, we did a full day tour that took in a lot of the WW1 key sites. Had lunch a a good restaurant in Albert. All in all a very good day.

Highly recommended - friendly, professional and knowledgable guide for private tour of WW1 memorials - Sylvestre is an oustanding guide and I am so happy to reccomend him to other travellers.
I travelled with my 70yo mother and a family friend in Sylvestre's comfortable Mercedes van. Always on time and immacualtely clean, the van was equipped to seat 7, so was more than comfortable for our small group of three.
My mothers hope in booking this trip was to find the grave of her great-uncle who had died in the first World War and Sylvestre found and provided records about him and took us to his memorial. He was happy to find us a local flower shop for us to purchase flowers for the memorial and accommodating and respectful of our time at the site.
Sylvestre is knowledgeable, friendly and quick witted. We loved speaking with him about history, travel and culture. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the wars, battles fought, and the locations. His tour is flexible and goes at your own pace. I love that he can tailor the tour to suit your particular interests, particularly in relation to visiting memorials relevant to you own Country - in my case, Australia.
I highly reccomend Sylvestre.

Making History Real - We decided during our stay in France to experience some of the WWI history up close and found this tour to do so. Our guide was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, not just about the places we toured, but also about the area in general. The diversity of sites we visited, from memorials to preserved battlefields, was astounding and way more than we expected. Would absolutely recommend this tour to a friend.

Fantastic tour of the Somme - A fantastic tour - we had a really enjoyable and insightful day. Sylvestre was a great guide, giving us lots of history and facts on the tour, moving at the right speed and allowing us to take our time at each stop. We learnt a lot from our trip and asked lots of questions. We were not looking for a specific grave (although if you are, Sylvestre will help you to find it) - we were looking for more a general tour and history of the Somme and this tour was fantastic. We would recommend this tour - it was excellent.

Sylvester’s tour - This was an excellent day. Sylvester picked us up from Paris at 8.30am and took my sister and I to The Somme. We visited the WW1 battlefields, museums, thiepval memorial and ancre cemetery, stopping for a break and lunch in between. Sylvester’s knowledge was excellent. The day was well paced and spaced and we really got to know Sylvester who gave us plenty of time to look around, take photos, he even helped carry our shopping..! We had space at ancre cemetery to spend time at the grave of our great great grandfather William Samuel Cully. It was a powerfully emotive day and all the more memorable due to the wonderful guide..! Highly recommended.

Sylvester us the best! - A day with Sylvester was a comprehensive, informative look at the Battle of the Somme. He hit more highlights than we could have covered in three days! And some off the beaten path stops we never would have seen. We loved it!
