Kayaking Aruba’s Southside: A Journey Through Turquoise Waters and Hidden Lagoons
With the allure of Aruba’s untouched coastline calling, I couldn’t resist the chance to explore it by kayak. Join me as I recount a day filled with ocean breezes, vibrant reefs, and the serene beauty of the Spanish Lagoon.
Setting Sail on a Breezy Adventure
The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I found myself at Mangel Halto Beach, ready to embark on a kayaking adventure along Aruba’s southside coastline. The gentle breeze carried the salty scent of the ocean, a familiar aroma that always brings a sense of calm and excitement. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours in the water, but there’s something uniquely thrilling about exploring the ocean from a kayak.
Our guides for the day, Rambo and Adrianna, greeted us with warm smiles and a quick rundown of the day’s itinerary. The wind was a bit stronger than usual, but nothing that would deter a seasoned ocean lover. With our kayaks ready, we set off towards the Mangel Halto platform, the first stop on our journey.
Discovering the Underwater World
As we paddled out to the platform, the rhythmic sound of the waves against the kayak was both soothing and invigorating. The water was a stunning shade of turquoise, and I couldn’t wait to dive in and explore the coral reef below. Rambo, our guide, was a treasure trove of information, sharing fascinating insights about the reef’s ecosystem and Aruba’s rich history.
Once we reached the platform, it was time to don our snorkeling gear and plunge into the vibrant underwater world. The reef was teeming with life, from colorful fish darting between the corals to the gentle sway of sea fans in the current. It was a mesmerizing experience, one that reminded me of the countless hours I’ve spent surfing and snorkeling in the Caribbean, always in awe of the ocean’s beauty.
A Journey Through the Spanish Lagoon
After our snorkeling adventure, we climbed back into our kayaks and set our sights on the Spanish Lagoon. The lagoon is a hidden gem, surrounded by lush mangroves that create a serene and almost mystical atmosphere. As we paddled through the calm waters, I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the natural world around me.
Rambo continued to share stories and insights, his passion for the ocean and Aruba’s history evident in every word. It was a reminder of why I love writing about these experiences, capturing the essence of island life and sharing it with fellow adventurers.
As we made our way back to Mangel Halto Beach, the sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the water. It was the perfect end to a day filled with exploration and discovery, a reminder of the endless adventures that await in the Caribbean. If you’re ever in Aruba, I highly recommend this kayaking adventure for a unique and unforgettable experience.
