Arusha – Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park - Departing from Arusha around 08:00, you’ll head towards Tarangire National Park, making a brief stop in Arusha town for any last-minute purchases before venturing into the wilderness. The journey will take you through the picturesque Masai steppe and several villages. Upon reaching the Makuyuni junction, you’ll turn left and continue along the Arusha-Dodoma highway towards Tarangire National Park, a drive of approximately 2.5 hours on a paved road. At the park gate, it will take your driver less than 15 minutes to handle the necessary park formalities. Game drives will commence right from the gate, where you can expect to see a variety of animals and birds, including the rare Great Kudu, Fringed-Eared Oryx, and Ash Stalling.
Tarangire National Park is renowned for its elephant population of about 6,000, which roams the Tarangire-Lake Manyara ecosystem. The park is also known for its massive baobab trees and tree-climbing pythons.
Your safari driver-guide will lead you to the prime wildlife viewing areas along the riverbank and lakeshore, where many animals gather for water and lush pastures. The Tarangire River and the dam in the park’s southwest corner are the only permanent water sources, supporting a large number of wildlife, including eland, buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and numerous bird species. Lions, leopards, hyenas, jackals, and cheetahs can also be spotted here. A packed lunch will be provided inside the park. In the late afternoon, you’ll drive past the Lake Manyara gate and up to the Great Rift Valley escarpment, stopping at the Lake Manyara viewpoint for a restroom break and to capture some beautiful sunset photos of Lake Manyara and its forest. Afterwards, you’ll proceed to Country Lodge in the Ngorongoro highlands for dinner.
Tarangire to Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater - After breakfast, your 2-day Tanzania lodge safari continues with a visit to the Ngorongoro Crater. You’ll begin by driving through the scenic high-lying farmlands of Karatu to the Ngorongoro gate for check-in, then proceed to the crater rim. Here, you’ll stop at the Crater viewpoint to enjoy and photograph the stunning views of the crater floor before descending the 600-meter-high walls to the crater floor for an exceptional game viewing experience. This vast volcanic caldera, often referred to as the 8th wonder of the natural world, is home to a diverse array of animal species. The year-round supply of water and fodder allows the Ngorongoro Crater to support a large population of wildlife, including herds of wildebeest, buffalo, African elephants, zebras, elands, hippos, gazelles, and the rare black rhino.
Ngorongoro Crater also hosts a dense population of predators, such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and jackals. Birdlife is abundant, with large flocks of flamingos at Lake Magadi, pelicans, ibises, ostriches, geese, and other bird species. A packed lunch will be served on the crater floor. In the late afternoon, you’ll drive out of the crater and return to Arusha, where your safari concludes.
End of safari.
