Arusha - Upon your arrival at the airport, a representative from Lion King will greet you and transport you to your accommodation in Arusha. Here, you will spend the night, unwind, and get ready for the exciting adventures ahead.
Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park - Following breakfast, we set off for a full-day game drive in Tarangire National Park, known for its diverse landscapes. The park features nine vegetation zones and is dotted with ancient baobab trees, the largest in Africa, which tower over the animals grazing below. The Tarangire River winds through the park, attracting a variety of wildlife including elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, and numerous colorful birds. Tarangire is renowned for having the largest elephant population in Tanzania, and during our safari, we will have the chance to observe many elephant families. We will stop for a picnic lunch at an observatory within the park, where we can watch animals drinking from the river, and sometimes witness lions hunting zebras or wildebeests. Our safari continues until evening, when we return to our lodge for dinner and a well-deserved rest.
Central Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, we head towards the fertile highlands where the Iraqw people cultivate wheat and corn. En route, we pass through the misty rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where we might spot baboons, leopards, or elephants in the dense foliage. As we travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, we will catch a glimpse of the stunning Ngorongoro Crater before continuing to Serengeti National Park, arriving by midday. Serengeti National Park, the largest in Tanzania, boasts diverse landscapes including grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannahs, and mountains. After an extensive game drive, we will proceed to our accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.
Northern Serengeti National Park
Migration at Serengeti National Park - In the morning, we embark on a game drive towards the Northern region of the Serengeti. This area, stretching about 100km from Seronera, features gently rolling countryside, small rivers, occasional hills, and kopjes. It is home to a large permanent population of wildlife and notable geological features like the beautiful Lobo Kopje. The Northern Serengeti is a fascinating and varied region, far from the park’s main southern entry point, and thus sees fewer visitors.
During August, the migration passes through this area, and we may be fortunate enough to witness the dramatic river crossings as herds attempt to cross the Mara River, avoiding strong currents and hungry crocodiles. After a full day, we head to our accommodation for dinner and a night under the magnificent African sky on the ‘Endless Plain.’
North Serengeti National Park
Migration at Serengeti National Park - After an early breakfast, we set out to make the most of the day. There is a chance to witness animals crossing the Mara River. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeests gather on the riverbanks, eyeing the lush grass on the other side. It takes just one brave wildebeest to make the first move, and then the rest follow! Those that successfully evade the crocodiles are rewarded with the green grazing grass of the Masai Mara.
Central Serengeti National Park
Migration at Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, we return to Seronera for more opportunities to experience the incredible wildlife and natural beauty of the Serengeti. Besides the migrating herds, we may also see resident predators like leopards, cheetahs, and lions playing their roles in the circle of life. After an extensive game drive, we head to our accommodation for a hearty dinner and another night by the fire, relaxing and conversing under the starry African sky on the ‘Endless Plain.’
Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Migration at Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, we embark on another game drive in the Serengeti before traveling to the Ngorongoro Crater. Arriving at the crater’s edge in the afternoon, we get our first glimpse of the wonders that await us the next day – sparkling streams, open grasslands, and countless animals. We will spend the night at a nearby lodge on the crater’s rim.
Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater - Early in the morning, after breakfast, we descend to the crater floor for a day of wildlife viewing in one of the most remarkable places on Earth. The animals roam freely through the unfenced reserves, offering an uninterrupted game viewing experience. The caldera, formed about three million years ago by a massive volcanic explosion, is 610 meters deep and covers roughly 260 square kilometers. It is a self-contained ecosystem. The name Ngorongoro mimics the sound of the bells worn by Maasai cows. It is one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five, as well as wildebeests, gazelles, reedbucks, and many other species, along with about 500 bird species. We will stop for a picnic lunch near the hippo lake and, in the afternoon, ascend the steep road out of the crater to overnight in the nearby town of Karatu.
Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha
Lake Manyara National Park - After breakfast, we drive to our final destination on this epic safari – Lake Manyara National Park. This relatively small but diverse park is located 120km west of Arusha. It is named after the shallow salt lake that covers about seventy percent of the park’s surface area, fluctuating with the seasons and home to thousands of flamingos and around 500 other bird species. During our exploration of the park, we will see monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, elephants, and, with some luck, lions lounging in the trees. The park is known for its varied landscapes, including open grassy plains, primate-filled woodlands, and baobab-dotted cliffs. After lunch, we head back to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon.
