Sighting African elephants and leopards is uncommon. Situated at the foot of Mount Meru, the park offers opportunities for mountaineering. The forest abounds with a diversity of avian species, with many endemic forest birds more readily observable.

Although easily reachable, Arusha NP is often omitted from safari trip plans, primarily because it lacks the opportunity to witness the Big 5. The park encompasses a mix of ecosystems, including forests that serve as a sanctuary to the black-and-white colobus monkeys and is a prime location for birdwatching.
