Make time for a Lifted Strong class! - We were going to be in Arusha for a couple of days before our safari so we booked a cooking class with Joyce of Lifted Strong. This turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to Tanzania. Seeing animals in the wild is surreal, but meeting people where they are, where they live and work, is priceless. Joyce rents a small building on a bumpy road, about a half hour from the city, where she holds classes for her "mamas," women who are trying to build skills to better themselves, and for tourists like us. With her three helpers, one a graduate of her program, and two current students, she taught us how to make samosas, chapati, and pea soup. Cooking in a wok over a propane tank, this was a real slice of Tanzanian life. The photo is of my husband scraping out the inside of a coconut while sitting on a little stool with a serrated piece of metal stuck in the end. This is a tool every kitchen should have if you're going to work with coconuts! Seeing the animals on safari is incredible, but interacting with these people will change your life.

Great food and lovely woman - Its more like "cooking together" than like a real cooking class but it was a nice afternoon with those lovely women and we really like the food. Don't bei afraid to take the walk to Lifted Strong, it's just a little bit far from main street, but no worries!

Funny experience to support great work - Really funny experience, we cooked (or try to) samosa, coconut soup (doing also the milk from the coconut) and Irio. The girls have been wonderful and they showed us the amazing work that they do for women and girls with health issues or from villages around. It's very important what they do, and doing the cooking class you can support them. Very nice 👍

Great experience - The events of the day were set to be a surprise for me . I didn't know where we were headed . Once we arrived and were greeted by Joyce and then the young ladies I was pleasantly surprised as they provided a warm welcome. Their hospitality was much appreciated. As we were provided with an overview of the mission of Lifted Strong, along with the multiple ways that they aid and assist the girls and women in the community I became even more excited about this experience. Maria took the lead as she and Joyce guided us through the process of making different types of samosas from scratch along with other delightful dishes. I won't give away the entire menu for those that may choose to participate in the Lifted Strong cooking class. Asha and Fildos* worked seamlessly to make sure everything was ready for us. We were then joined by Dr. Eva, whom I assisted in frying the samosa to a golden brown crisp. The cooking class was both educational and engaging . All of the ladies made us feel welcomed. I would encourage everyone who visits Tanzania to take the Lifted Strong cooking class. You will not only have a great time and a wonderful meal but you will also contribute to a great cause and a great mission.

Excellent experience! - We took a school group of girls to the cooking class to learn how to make samosas. From start to finish the experience was amazing. The ladies were incredibly welcoming and were very encouraging to our kids. Everything was extremely well organised and there was plenty of freedom for the students to get as involved as they wanted with the process. Beyond the cooking class, Lifted Strong is an incredibly inspiring and wonderful organisation that is having a true impact on the local community. Hearing about all the ways in which they engage in outreach left our girls feeling motivated to make their own impact and to continue their support of the organisation well after the class ended. We are extremely grateful to Lifted Strong for this great experience and I would strongly recommend it to anyone.

Wonderful cooking class - After doing some researches, I found this Tanzanian Cooking Class. The booking with viator was very easy and worked perfectly. One day before my class, I got contacted from lifted strong and I could wish the topic of the cooking class. Two very kind girls, with whom I was going to cook, picked me up at the meeting point. I got introduced to the "lifted strong family" and the local kitchen. Then we prepared Sambusa (three different types!) and a soup. It was so interesting and a lot of fun, cooking outside in trational way. and of course the tasting in the end was delicious. I was further allowed to take some leftovers with me. So I had a great afternoon at lifted strong and I am going to cook Sambusa at home agian :-)

Chapati and pea soup - The three young women that taught us were fun and personable. They were recent graduates of the Lifted Strong program. We had fun learning the traditional methods of preparing a local meal.
