Into the Heart of the Oasis

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as we set out from Tozeur, the air crisp and filled with the promise of adventure. Our guide, Sami, and driver, Jubair, were the perfect companions for this journey into the heart of Tunisia’s largest mountain oasis, Tamerza. As someone who has trekked across deserts and scaled mountains, I was eager to see what this oasis had to offer.

Our first stop was the Chebika Oasis, a place that seemed to defy the barren landscape surrounding it. The natural streams and lush greenery were a stark contrast to the rugged mountains, creating a surreal environment that was both calming and invigorating. Sami and Jubair’s knowledge of the area was invaluable, and their passion for the landscape was infectious. A Taste of Local Hospitality

Our journey concluded with a visit to a local cafe, Cafe Berbere, where we were welcomed with open arms. The host’s warmth and generosity were a perfect reflection of the hospitality we had experienced throughout the day. As we sat down to enjoy a meal during iftar, the sense of community and connection was palpable.

Meeting Ali, the other half of Tunisia Reves, was a highlight of the day. His enthusiasm for sharing the beauty of Tunisia with visitors was evident, and it was clear that he and Sami were more than just guides; they were ambassadors of their culture and heritage.

As the sun set over the oasis, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the experiences of the day. The landscapes we had explored were breathtaking, but it was the people we met and the stories we shared that made this adventure truly unforgettable.
