Imlil is a quaint village situated within the towering Atlas Mountains of Morocco, elevated at a height of 1,800 metres (5,900 ft) above sea level. An in-depth depiction of Imlil, coupled with the challenges and opportunities facing Morocco’s highland communities, was featured in a 1984 publication titled ‘Imlil’ by James A. Miller, released by Westview Press. Proximate to the peak of Jebel Toubkal, the loftiest summit in North Africa, Imlil serves as an ideal starting point for mountaineers aiming to climb Toubkal, given that it’s positioned at the termination of the paved roadway. The village also functions as a congenial spot to engage the services of mountain guides and muleteers for the subsequent ascent. Due to its pivotal location, Imlil is recognized as the hub of alpine expeditions in Morocco, with about 90% of tourists setting off from this location to ascend Toubkal, Morocco’s preeminent peak.
