According to tradition, Francis himself, on his deathbed, indicated this spot to his companions as the place for his burial.

She received the Stigmata of Our Lord on her forehead. Even though this stigmata emitted a notably unpleasant smell, she endured it with humility and at her demise in 1457, her body exuded the aroma of blossoms.
