Visitors have been flocking to Assisi, Italy from the 13th century onwards to pay their respects to St. Francis, who was born and laid to rest in this town. Yet, its charm extends beyond its religious significance. This dreamy, picture-perfect town, set against the backdrop of the undulating landscape of Umbria and the woods of Monte Subasio, is one of the world’s most immaculately conserved medieval towns and one of Italy’s most enchanting treasures. Not everyone might be aware that Saint Rita of Cascia is often referred to as “the saint of the impossible”. St. Rita’s narrative is a testament to the strength of prayer and faith. She received the Stigmata of Our Lord on her forehead. Even though this stigmata emitted a notably unpleasant smell, she endured it with humility and at her demise in 1457, her body exuded the aroma of blossoms.
