In the chapel on the right, along the unique nave of St. Clare of Assisi, finishing in transept and polygonal apse, you can admire the Crucifix which, according to tradition, would have invited St. Francesco in the church of St. Damiano in order to “reset up the Church”. - Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli - Built on a grandiose scale, the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli is the seventh largest Christian church. Its magnificence may be at odds with the simplicity preached by St Francis himself but the flocks of pilgrims coming to visit the primitive Porziuncola chapel and the Cappella del Transito called for a building that was able to accomodate the faithful. - Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco d’Assisi - It is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Order of Friars Minor Conventual in Assisi, a town in the Umbria region in central Italy, where Saint Francis was born and died. - Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco d’Assisi - The Basilica of Saint Francis is world-famous for its 13th-14th century frescoes by the best painters of Italy at that time. Truly Amazing - Incredible tour by an amazing tour guide, Andre. The explanation of the frescos featuring the life of Jesus and the life of St. Francis was very interesting.

Fabulous frescoes - As examples of early art they are incredible Sadly St Frances gets very much taken over by your groups with guides giving running commentary via audio mikes - spoils the ambience

Wonderful tour with a very knowledgeable guide! Highly recommend! - My husband and I travelled to Italy with a large group. We booked this as a private tour and were so glad we did. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and provided so many details that I wanted to record everything because she knew so much about the history of the Basilica's that it was hard to soak it all in. I wish I could remember her name to give her credit! Highly recommend!

Well-organized trip to Assisi from Rome - Our group of 7 people had a great time on this well-organized full day trip to Assisi from Rome on a Sunday in May 2023, starting from David, my email contact in Umbriaconme, who responded quickly to my inquiries and considered my request to add the Duomo in Orvieto in our itinerary, to Fabrizio, our driver and to Maricar, our tour guide. Fabrizio is very professional and we were impressed when he arrived on time at our hotel in Rome in his Sunday suit. He is a reliable driver and speaks English very well. On our way to Assisi, he told us about the historical buildings and famous roads in Rome and Umbria as well as amusing stories about Italy, so there was no boring moment in the 3-hour journey each way. Maricar, our guide in Assisi is a competent tour guide and very knowledgeable about the history of the 3 Basilicas (St Francis, Sta Chiara and Saint Mary of the Angels) and Umbria as she was from there. As we have 2 elderly in our group, she took care of their needs so that they will be able to visit the Basilicas at their own pace. She also went out of her way to find a restaurant nearby that would serve late lunch with typical Umbrian dish. Highly recommended.
