Highlights
  • Assisi - Meet the guide at 10:30am and visit the old Roman ruins of the local amphitheater, which was reused in the Middle Ages as a quarry for stones to build local houses. You will see how the amphitheater was turned into a private neighborhood. From there, the view toward the Rocca Maggiore medieval castle is one of the best in the city.

Through narrow alleys and medieval squares you will reach Saint Rufino’s Cathedral and Saint Claire’s Basilica. From there, you will get to the main city square, Piazza del Comune. At the square you will see one of the best-preserved Roman temples in Italy

  • Basilica di Santa Chiara - The Basilica of St. Clare of Assisi, realized with the typical pink stone extracted from the quarry of the Subasio mountain, contains precious frescos dating back to the period from the XIIth to the XIVth century.

In the chapel on the right, along the unique nave of St. Clare of Assisi, finishing in transept and polygonal apse, you can admire the Crucifix which, according to tradition, would have invited St. Francesco in the church of St. Damiano in order to “reset up the Church”

  • Chiesa Nuova - Chiesa Nuova.

The Chiesa Nuova is a church in Assisi, Italy, built in 1615 on the site of the presumed birthplace of St. Francis, the house of Pietro di Bernardone. It was then called Chiesa Nuova because it was the last church to be built in Assisi at that time.

  • Cattedrale di San Rufino - Assisi Cathedral, dedicated to San Rufino (Rufinus of Assisi) is a major church in Assisi.
  • Santa Maria sopra Minerva - The Temple of Minerva is an ancient Roman building in Assisi, Umbria, central Italy. It currently houses a church, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, built in 1539 and renovated in Baroque style in the 17th century.
  • Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco d’Assisi - Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the basilica of St. Francis was built under the direction of Brother Elias, vicar general and architect of the order, starting in 1228, just two years after the saint’s death, as a place designed to receive his remains.
  • Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco d’Assisi - If the solemn and dark lower basilica invites penance and silence, the upper church soars into the sky, airy and bright.

In a Gothic style with French influences, the nave has four bays, cross vaulting, and a polygonal transept and apse.

Excellent tour in incredible town - Love the charm and history of Assisi. Our tour guide Marica (not sure of spelling) was fantastic. She shared all the specifics of the history of Assisi and the similarities of past with the present making history fun to listen to. She was energetic and kind and fun to spend the day with. Assisi is Amazing, a must see - Most memorable part of the tour was the Church of St. Francis, but we also saw so much more! Our tour guide Alessandra was exceptional!! Born, raised and lives in Assisi she is very passionate about her work and the history of Assisi. The history, architecture, art (Giotti artist), the Roman ruins, the blending of Gothic and Roman architecture, she was so knowledgeable about everything! She made the tour for us. Highly recommend taking this tour and trying to request Alessandra!

Easy guide to Assisi - The main church of Assisi was wonderful, the history of the church and how it came to be. the guide was very knowledgeable and very accommodating. The pace of the trip was slow enough to take everything in, including local street vendors.

Great tour! - We had an excellent tour with Michelle! The tour entered the Church of Saint Claire, San Rufino, and both floors of Saint Francis. For St Francis we needed to pay an extra €3 for audio tour headsets, bring cash. We learned a lot and enjoyed Michelle's great attitude and good advice, he also spoke excellent English. For people with mobility challenges, the tour moves steadily downhill and does include some stairs.

We Love Assisi!! - We were so very blessed to have Allessandra take us for a tour of Assisi! She met us promptly at the top of this medieval town, and walked us down throughout the historic hillside village. We were able to visit many beautiful churches and cathedrals and, of course, the highlight: the Basillica of San Francesco d'Assisi. We were able to visit the tombs of St. Francis and St. Clare and pay our respects. But to our great astonishment, Blessed Carlo Acutis is also here in Assisi! He is resting in the beautiful Santa Maria Maggiore church. Also, the San Damiano cross, the actual Crucifix that spoke to Saint Francis, hangs in the Basilica of Saint Clare. All of these sights have such deep meaning and we were truly touched deeply to see these treasures. Our guide was so very knowledgeable about church history and interesting anecdotes! Our small group (2 couples) are Catholic so we really appreciated her numerous insights, and stories about the saints' lives. Allessandra was warm, funny, smart, and kept us moving at a good pace. The three hours we had with her were simply not enough. Will definitely come back and visit Assisi again.

Great Day in Assisi! - Wow! Our guide was full of energy and factoids that we simply would not have found out on our own. A packed 2.5 hours that went by quickly as we moved from one fantastic site to the next. What a beautiful city and experience. Thanks so much

Assisi with Francesca, Umbria Con Me - Very happy with my experience with Umbria Con Me and one of their tour guides, Francesca.. We did 3 tours with her.. So very thoughtful to have the same person with us on each tour with my group of 7 ladies. Assisi was our last tour.. We started at the south end of town and ended at the basilica of St Francis. A lot to cover in 2.5 hours.. Francesca was a great fit for us and we appreciated her flexibility in leaving our group time to do some shopping.. our other tours with Francesca were Spello & Bevagna.. I will book again with Umbria Con Me; their pricing is very fair and they communicated promptly throughout our booking process.

My Review. - Awesome sights, but we aren't Catholic so we could have spend a little less time with St. Francis. Don't know why the review has to have 100 characters.
