Aswan High Dam - The High Dam
The Aswan High Dam is a rock-fill dam located at the northern border between Egypt and Sudan. It is fed by the River Nile, forming Lake Nasser. Construction began in 1960 and was completed in 1968, with its official inauguration in 1971.
Unfinished Obelisk - The Unfinished Obelisk
Aswan was the source of ancient Egypt’s finest granite, used for statues and temple embellishments. The large unfinished obelisk in the Northern Quarries offers valuable insights into monument creation, though the full process remains unclear. Three sides of the nearly 42m long shaft were completed, except for the inscriptions. At 1168 tonnes, the finished obelisk would have been the heaviest stone piece ever crafted by the Egyptians.
