Philae Temple-Unfinished Obelisk And High Dam Day Tour In Aswan
Aswan High Dam - At 8:00 am, a tour guide will pick you up from your hotel, Nile cruise, or even the airport in Aswan to enjoy a day tour in the amazing city of Aswan. Start your tour with a visit to the High Dam. The Aswan High Dam, or simply the High Dam, is a water dam on the Nile River in southern Egypt, established during the reign of Gamal Abdel Nasser, with contributions from the Soviets. The dam has been instrumental in controlling the flow of water and mitigating the effects of the Nile flood. It is also used to generate electricity in Egypt. The dam is 3,600 meters long, 980 meters wide at the base, 40 meters wide at the summit, and 111 meters high. Built to control the Nile River’s annual floods, the Aswan High Dam transformed Egypt’s Nile Valley and created the vast Lake Nasser. The sheer scale of the dam is impressive, and at the top, you’ll find sweeping views of the lake and surrounding desert.
Unfinished Obelisk - Then proceed to visit the Unfinished Obelisk, which showcases the techniques used by the ancient Egyptians to cut obelisks. This obelisk most likely belongs to Queen Hatshepsut, one of the rulers of the 18th Dynasty and the royal wife of King Tuthmosis II. This queen was the owner of her temple on the eastern bank of Luxor. There is also an opinion that it belongs to Queen Nefertiti. The Unfinished Obelisk is a pink granite obelisk in Aswan, Egypt. It is found in the northern part of a quarry there, located near Aswan on the eastern shore of the Nile, about 1 km east of the Nile River. The height of the obelisk would have reached about 41.7 meters, and its side section at its base would be 2.4 meters by 2.4 meters. When completed, it would weigh about 1168 tons. You’ll also find ancient rock paintings left behind by stone workers.
Temple of Philae - Move on to visit the majestic Philae Temple, which was built in honor of Goddess Isis, the chief deity of the island. The Philae temple complex is an island-based temple complex in the reservoir of the Aswan Low Dam, downstream of the Aswan Dam and Lake Nasser, Egypt. You can still admire hieroglyphic reliefs abutting soaring columns and sanctuaries dedicated to the ancient gods Horus, Isis, and Hathor. Later, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
Tour To Abu Simbel From Aswan
Abu Simbel Temples - At 8:00 am, an expert tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Aswan and drive south of Aswan, which is around a 3-hour drive, to enjoy an Abu Simbel day tour from Aswan by air-conditioned vehicle.
The two Temples of Abu Simbel, with their unique style, are considered masterpieces of ancient Egypt.
They reflect the glory and grandeur of the New Kingdom. The Egyptian government and UNESCO decided to cooperate to save these temples from the flood. The Temple of Ramses II was dedicated to the four universal gods Ptah, Re-Her-Akhtey, Amun-Re, and to Ramesses II himself. The great Abu Simbel temple is also called The Sun Temple of Ramses II. The Temple of Queen Nefertari is also called the Temple of Hathor, who was the wife of the Sun God. In a symbolic way, the two temples, that of Ramesses II and that of Nefertari, bring Ramesses II, Nefertari, Hathor, and the Sun God together as one.
Temple of Nefertari - Nefertari, also known as Nefertari Meritmut, was an Egyptian queen and the first of the Great Royal Wives (or principal wives) of Ramesses the Great. Nefertari means ‘beautiful companion’ and Meritmut means ‘Beloved of [the goddess] Mut’. She is one of the best-known Egyptian queens, among such women as Cleopatra, Nefertiti, and Hatshepsut, and one of the most prominent not known or thought to have reigned in her own right. She was highly educated and able to both read and write hieroglyphs, a very rare skill at the time. She used these skills in her diplomatic work, corresponding with other prominent royals of the time. Her lavishly decorated tomb, QV66, is one of the largest and most spectacular in the Valley of the Queens. Ramesses also constructed a temple for her at Abu Simbel next to his colossal monument there.
Abu Simbel Temples - Ramesses II, variously also spelled Rameses or Ramses, ‘Ra is the one who bore him’ or ‘born of Ra’, Koinē Greek: Ῥαμέσσης, romanized: Rhaméssēs, c. 1303 BC – July or August 1213; reigned 1279–1213 BC), also known as Ramesses the Great, was the third pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty of Egypt. He is often regarded as the greatest, most celebrated, and most powerful pharaoh of the New Kingdom, itself the most powerful period of Ancient Egypt. His successors and later Egyptians called him the “Great Ancestor”.
At the end of the tour, you will return to your hotel in Aswan.
