Great views - Amazing tour. Felucca boats help you capture the culture of the Nile. Botanical gardens are also nice. Recommend doing this trip closer to sunset

An 'interesting' excursion - Our guide, Mido, picked us up from our hotel but we were horrified by the state of the car, which was old and filthy. Fortunately, it was only a short drive to the felucca dock. We set sail on the felucca and after several tacks into the head wind, the main rope from the top of the mast to the sail broke. One of the two crew scaled the mast with the ease of a monkey (no health & safety rules apparent in Egypt!) and tried to repair the break, without success, meaning that the boat was very difficult to control. After about 45 minutes, we eventually got towed to Kitchener Island, site of the Botanical Gardens. We visited the gardens during a previous visit to Egypt many years ago and wanted to go again. Mido showed us around and many of the enormous and impressive trees have plaques on them showing their names in Latin, English and Arabic. However, the gardens are beginning to look a bit scruffy. Mido was very personable and invited us to visit him in his Nubian village. Unfortunately, we did not have time to take him up on his kind offer. While we were visiting the gardens, the two boatmen managed to repair the felucca sail, so our journey back to Aswan was fairly quick and uneventful. Unfortunately, we were returned to our hotel in another dilapidated, dirty car. Let’s just say that it was an ‘interesting’ excursion!
